Whew. Got my period on Saturday, and assessing the Munchy Monster Damage, I see that peanut butter toast was my "go-to" this time around. I had two slices of peanut butter toast for dinner one day last week, and on Saturday I had it for breakfast. Twice.
In addition, I had a spoonful of peanut butter, straight up, a couple of times in the past few days. Also ate a lot of grapes.
Thinking of this in a rational way, I am not happy with myself for choosing such rich stuff. I did eat a lot of pnut butter. BUT, I am extremely happy with myself for NOT choosing the candy treats that are still all over the place at work. I also didn't eat tortilla chips, potato chips, cheetos, and only had popcorn one time.
To be fair, and honest with myself: I can do better, and I DID BETTER than last month!
TODAY'S PLAN:
B: cheezy steel cut oats made with mushrooms and with berries on top
L: rice, yellow grape tomatoes, carrots
D: color bowl: winter squash, rice, garbanzos, saute'd kale, peas, corn, grated carrot, berries, grape tomatoes
I'm reading "Super Immunity" and loving it. GOMBBS: Greens, Onion, Mushrooms, Berries, Beans, Seeds. Dr Fuhrmann says to eat these six foods in combination as often as possible, for the maximum immunity benefits. They are all anti-carcinogenic, and they all are anti-inflammatory, too.
I'm reading it primarily for the cellulitis that has recurred so frequently this year. It is a bacterial infection, so strengthening my own immune system so that my body has the artillery to fight it is good; it causes an inflammation in my skin, so eating a lot of anti-inflammatory foods makes sense, too.
One thing that is counter to Dr M's advice: Dr Fuhrmann recommends staying away from white potatoes. He also recommends higher than 10% fat intake WITHIN FOODS, NOT FREE OILS...and a large fresh salad every day, to up the intake of raw greens and vegetables. I don't particularly care for tossed salad, so this will be a challenge. HOWEVER, since he recommends an ounce of seeds or nuts per day, (in order to get higher than 10% fat) I think I could make a creamy rich salad dressing with cashews or walnuts and possibly make the salads more palatable.
One thing: eating a big tossed salad would definitely cause me to "lead with the greens"...I just haven't ever developed a taste for salads NOT drenched in Ranch
The thought of eating a large salad every day with 321 Dressing, or Fresh Tomato Dressing, or Carrot Ginger Dressing, or just simple balsamic vinegar...not appetizing in the slightest. I could do it, if I could have the creamy dressing...There are a few salad dressing recipes in the book. I think one with cashews might be worth trying.
Now...saute'd kale with garlic and lemon? mmmmm! Spinach munched fresh out of the bag? YEAH! A heaping serving of arugula under a rice and bean blend? oooh, baby!

Went to a wedding on Saturday. It was beautiful, and the bride's mama, one of my good friends at church, was HOT! She wore absolutely THE most amazing dress: an off-the-shoulder metallic sheath in pewter, ruched on the sides, that came to just above her knees; four inch black stiletto pumps; a glittering diamond-ish choker, bracelet, earrings and brooch at the V of the bustline...absolutely GORGEOUS HOTTY! my friend
Because I ate big beforehand, I easily avoided the treats at the reception and spent two solid hours Dancing Like A Dork! Woot! And woke up limping on Sunday but it was worth it.
For someone who rarely exercises, I have some pretty good stamina. I've noticed at work, I can dash up the stairs (15) without batting an eye or one huff nor a puff...and on the dance floor, I went without stopping pretty much the whole time it was open, taking one break when slow music came on. I know the food I eat simply makes me stronger and gives me more energy, so even though I'm out of shape for something like jogging or swimming, I do pretty darn good for fun stuff like dancing, gardening, and other day to day stuff.
That said, I do want to get an exercise regimen going. What can I do, that'll get my heart rate up, that won't hurt my foot...THAT is the question.

Salt is out of my diet completely now! I do not add it to rice, oats, quinoa, or any other grain; I do not put it in with boiling potatoes; I have gotten to where I put it on the surface of my foods about twice a month or less. It's amazing how much more subtle the flavors are and how delicious. There are SO MANY OTHER FLAVORS besides "salty" !!!
We'll see how things go. Maybe I'll follow the menus in the fuhrmann book to a T.
