Oh ya, add beans to the SNAP too. Then you have your baked potato on the side. So yummy!!

Yep, I forgot about the beans...sometimes I add them, too. Most beans give me stomach upset and other problems, so I for get about adding them every once in a while!

The best part about a SNAP meal, I think, is that it gets me over the "recipe" fixation that I can't cook anything without a recipe telling me exactly which ingredients to add. I'm pretty bold now in making my own stuff!

Ok next time I might throw some lentils in there!

So I made my first SNAP... it turned out ok.... I didnt have any chili powder, so I used a packet of taco seasoning. I had a large can of no sodium diced tomatoes, 2 cups of brocc/cauli/carrots and 1 cup of kale/collard/yellow beans/rapini mix .... and taco seasoning... had it over potatoes.... turned out ok. DH didn't like it all that much, and said next time "make it taste more like stew".... I think I will use veggie broth next time as I agree! I love the taste of chili, but he isnt so fond of it.... trial and error :)

Yesterdays eats:
B- smoothie - lite soy milk, bluberries, banana, cocoa
S- cherries
L- lentil burger on ww flat bread
D- SNAP meal, wine w/juice

Today:
B- oats & berries, 1/2 cup coffee w/silk
S- cherries
L- SNAP
D- unsure

No more wine/juice Sun-Fri, allowed some on Sats only.

Home with child today, he tripped and hurt his foot yesterday and refuses to walk on it. Must be pretty serious for an almost 3 year old to not want to walk at all.. :( Heading to the walk in clinic in a few hours..

B- oats & berries, coffee w/silk
S- soy decaf mocha, 1/2 piece nana bread
L- 2 boiled potatoes w/ low sodium ketchup
S- lf corn chips w/ salsa
D- cheezy potato casserole (just made, waiting for it to cool :D )

Took son to dr for foot, got X-rays, went back for results.... Over 3 hours and nothing showed on the X-ray.... Which is good ... but little man won't walk... Dr says it's possibly a sprain. Day by day. See how it goes.

Good for you for not caving! I will add that breads foster cravings in me...when I have had a couple of slices of bread in a couple of days, I try to follow that up with several days of only potatoes or brown rice and plain veggies, to clear me out!

Karen,

That bread will keep you craving bad foods that's for sure. I can eat a couple pieces here & there, that's ok. On occassion I make the chick pea tuna. It is pretty good. But I only make enough for maybe a day or 2 for lunch, that is all the bread I can handle. I make sure the bread is whole grain. I put what is left of the bread in the freezer, does not seem to bother me that it is there, thank goodness & it does not seem to set me off, but more than that it will. I wonder if where you are at, trying to get started, you might be better off just getting rid of it. At least for now, until you get in the McDougall Zone!!

Ok back... After a terrible off plan long weekend, here I am. It was my bday & I let myself go

No more bread or fats starting now.

B- oats & berries
S- carrots, banana
L- SNAP w/ brown rice
D- chili beans w/ brown rice, lettuce, tomatoes, salsa

I am not overly enjoying snap meals, but maybe I need to find new seasoning. This one has Mrs. Dash, veg worcester, braggs. Not bad but not great.

Happy to be back. My gut is hurting...

I've been using all different types of spices and making them continually different tasting. Some we have liked some we noted not to do again. experimenting with it will let you know what you like and what you don't.

So last night I ended up having ff pretzel crisps & wine. Wheat & alcohol... Arg. I got home from work and I was ravenous... Need to better prepare! :\

Oh, edited to add... Last 2 days of WI: 162 :(

Today:
B- oats & berries
S- carrots & apple
L- chili beans, brown rice, tomatoes, lettuce & salsa
D- unsure but will plan today!

I am extremely bloated and having digestive issues. May be cause I was off plan .....or am I sensitive to wheat...? I have had the celiac tests done but it came back negative...regardless, off wheat/ flour products. Never been off it before, this should be interesting...

I am now having 1 ounce of aloe vera juice in the am. Good for digestion. Nasty stuff though!

Back later

Thanks Rosey, re: snap meals... I think I am having a tough time figuring out what veggies to put in. I have decided I don't enjoy carrots or broccoli in my snap meals so far... Green beans, peas and corn I like the best. I'll keep experimenting! Any favorites you'd like to share? :)

I pretty much love all veggies in it but I think my fav so far was some stir fry ones that had cauliflower, asparagus, brussel sprouts, and carrots<cut really thin and long.>
