Hi there,
I spend a lot of time here on the forums reading mostly and rarely posting. You have all inspired me and made me laugh when I've needed it most and now I think it's time to start journaling my experiences to keep myself accountable.
A little about me.
I've known about McDougall since the early 90's and have been able to lose 30-35lbs regularly on it when I get serious. Giving up meat was not a problem and I only had cheese on occasion but I ate out a lot and I was (am) a fat vegan. I've read most of the books by other low fat plant based authors and I even got to attend some of the Advanced Study weekends. My husband is totally supportive. He eats this way at home and only adds a bit of meat when he's out. He's probably 20lbs overweight. I need to lose 45 or so.
Which brings us to now. I decided that now is the time to get serious since I'm in my 40's and although other than being overweight my health is good. I started mid September at 208 and was able to lose 10lbs in a month. Now I've stalled completely. I started on the regular program and when I stalled switched to MWL. I upped my exercise from 3miles of brisk walking 6 days a week to add in addition to that a 1 mile run on the treadmill 3 days a week and upper body resistance training with weights 3 days a week and a little lower body too but not as much. Still nothing. I've been stuck at 197 for 3 1/2 weeks and I'm ready to scream. I went to the doc today to get some lab work done to see if it's my thyroid. I had that checked 2 years ago and it was fine although I have a lot of the symptoms. Cold intolerance, fatigue, foggy brain, heavy periods. I should get the results later this week and although I don't want it to be hypothyroid and I don't think it is, I just want to know why this is happening. I use CRON and I've been coming between 1300-1600 calories per day since switching to MWL. UGH. Has this happened to anyone else?
Don't want to start my journal on a down note but that's what's happening now. I'm not giving up because I know I have many other reasons for doing this and I am getting other benefits. I really appreciate reading all of your journals. You are all good examples of stick-to-it-ivness.
