Hi Anna! Thanks for posting. Yeah, what's that definition of insanity? "Doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results."

I woke up feeling really nauseous and it continued on and off all day. Can't figure out why because I ate so well yesterday. This happens sometimes to me and it's hard to pinpoint why.

Breakfast: not much - half a raisin/cinnamon bagel plain and tried to drink coffee but didn't feel well enough to drink much.

Snack: nectarine

Lunch - leftover Heather McDougall's rice, tofu, vegie dish; water; banana

Snack: two slices plain whole grain bread; cup of black tea

Dinner: water; pasta with spinach and chicken breast (I'm sorry but true confessions). I ate the chicken because my stomach was feeling so weird all day and I rationalized it by telling myself it would make me feel better. Dumber than S... I know. Fortunately or unfortunately, my stomach does feel better. Go figure.

I suppose this day's food log fits with Mark Bittman's Vegan til Six or whatever the title is.

Exercise: none

Hope to feel better tomorrow and do better.

Saturday. Kind of steamy outside after a couple of rainy days, but the sun's trying to come out and it's warming up. The nausea is gone, hurray.

Breakfast: slice whole grain bread; coffee; water

Lunch: Amy's Bean & Rice Soup, baby carrots, water, orange

Snack: Banana; water

Dinner: Quinoa Salad with lots of steamed vegetables and the remaining Asian sauce from Heather McDougall's recipe. Water

There's a great post in the Lounge titled, "I Could Have Written This," with a link to a post on the Engine2 website by Natala. I really liked the quotes she included from Doug Lisle about just starting and keeping going. Very encouraging information she shared there.

Exercise today: 30 minutes of swimming; gardening

Quick post.

Just took a 90 year old friend to church and, after dropping her off at her house, I'm having lunch at home before doing errands. Beautiful day here.

Breakfast: slice of whole grain bread with 2 teaspoons peanut butter; 1/2 cup coffee; water

Lunch: large bowl of leftover quinoa salad (I used a recipe from Leanne Campbell's The China Study Cookbook. I made way too much! Water; coffee; about 10 cashews

Snack: fresh fruit

Dinner: more quinoa salad with something (I haven't figured out what).

Last night I had a cup of the leftover pasta salad in addition to the quinoa salad. I also made a pineapple/cherry cake from Leanne Campbell's cookbook which was fat free and very tasty. It's more like a cobbler than a cake.

Okay this quick post has taken long enough.

No swim yesterday as planned, so I'm going swimming today. I am, I am.

Hi Birdy,

I just read the opening of your journal, and the last couple of posts. I'll definitely be reading more. I started mine yesterday, trembling all the way. I've journaled before, but not so the world can see, so this is going to be interesting.

I see you still drink coffee. I have one cup of black coffee per day. I used to drink four or six per day until starting this WOE, so I consider that progress. I'm definitely sleeping better!
Blessings,

Hi Jobet! Wow my journal has been inactive for 4 1/2 years...I'm not sure my posts will be useful for you. I got bored with my journal because I was stuck. Also, instead of helping me progress, it mostly made me feel bad about myself :-( BUT in the past four years, I was diagnosed with diabetes (long story), have lost 40 pounds, and am still eating mostly but not completely, plant based. I do drink coffee and really enjoy it. In my case, even though the BMI is now less than 20, the diabetes hasn't reversed and I still have quite high blood pressure and take meds for that. However, my cholesterol dropped from 225 to 150 at last measurement, triglycerides came down from around 250 to 90. The only non-plan food I still eat and KNOW I really need to get away from is dairy. And I'm still using small amounts of oil (I know it's a big no no). I'm working on both issues. I still have diabetes, take medication for that, and have had some issues that I'm seeing a specialist for. Would love to go to one of the McDougall weekends or even a 10-day!

There's no question this way of eating (McDougall, Barnard, Esselstyn, etc.) is correct and health-promoting, and likely I can become healthier by finally getting the dairy and all the oil out of my diet. One strategy I've been using lately that works great is I just go to the recipes topic and randomly search for dinner ideas. These recipes make enough that I then have dinner for two days and sometimes for one lunch as well. Breakfast is usually oatmeal or Ezekiel bread with 1 T. peanut butter and fresh fruit. Lunch is variable: salads, pasta sometimes, soups. I'm thinking about also using Mary's recipes for lunch/snack ideas.

You and I are close in age - I'm 68. Welcome to the board!! :-D

Birdy,

I was so into your journal, I never even noticed the dates! Sorry, if I resurrected something that might make you feel bad. I just followed your name from a comment on one of my posts, saw journal, clicked and began reading.

I'm in the process of watching the iThrive series, free yesterday and today. They are all about diabetes and so many awesome Drs we're familiar with and such incredible information. I don't have the disease, but the advice for diabetics is good for any of us.

Oh, yes, it would be a dream come true to be able to attend a McDougall weekend or 10-day program. But, I simply can't afford it, nor can I fly, and I live way to far to walk!! :-D

I like the idea of searching for dinner ideas. Thanks for mentioning that. I don't do well with oats, and too addicted to bread to have it in my house. Plus, bread and flour isn't on the MWL plan, but I'm finding tons of food that I can eat, even with all my food sensitivities and am lovin' this new life.

If you ever decide to journal again, let me know, and I'll visit!!

Blessings
