Simple Cabbage and Chick Pea Soup - Fat Free Vegan recipe & my own
Broccoli & Cauliflower Braised in Tomato Basil are simmering on the stove...

Walked 5.3 with the wife, she conked out and did another 3 myself.

Finishing up with the cooking and the rest of my 'honey do' list before going to church tonight.

Life is good.

6.35 miles today ahead of tomorrow's weigh in...

If I remain compliant tonight, it will mark 6 weeks of not eating a bite of bread, pasta, rice or nuts and keeping my promise to my son.

I think I can do it

Tuesday Weigh Day - Week #6

Week 1 ________ 0
Week 2 ________-4
Week 3 ________-4
Week 4 ________-2
Week 5 ________-3.5
Week 6 ________-4

3/21/16 --- 238
5/2/16 ---- 220.5

17.5 pounds lost / 2.9 pounds per week average

Man, time sure does fly... 6 weeks, just like that... My 6 week 're-boot' has been a huge success.

While the Gift Part II has run it's course, my journey is far from over, this trip will last the rest of my life.
Just as Part I taught me invaluable lessons, so has Part II and all this knowledge will propel me to the 'optimum health' finish line for sure and with great certanty.

I'm on my way again and headed the right direction.

42 days ago I made a promise, a contract if you will that I would refocus my WFPB WOE plan and make it cleaner and more conducive to lose the remaining weight I needed to lose. I had been plateuing for way too long and need a little kick... That kick came from my son noticing I was eating too much in the way of bread, rice, pasta and nuts... Just as I had promised him to give up all animal products for 'only' 6 weeks- that was 20 months ago and I became hooked- I promised to cut out flour products and nuts which I ate in large amounts and they hampered not only my weight loss but they bogged me down, making me feel so heavy I didn't feel like moving. I'm feeling the hook once again because I feel great, I'm eating better and I'm moving more than ever. I walked 42 mile last week alone!!!

Fast forward to the present, I promised to abstain from those items and I did. Perfectly. I didn't cheat once. Not at all.
And in doing so, in the past 6 weeks, I have learned:

***That if I can abstain from bread, pasta, rice and nuts, I can pretty much do anything. That's how addictive those items were to me. As of now, I don't have a desire to have any and frankly, I'm scared to death to have some because I love the way I feel like I do now. I'm gonna hold off a few weeks or months more to really cement this.

***I'm walking and moving more because I'm eating better and in turn the acts of walking and moving more make me feel even better & better, it just keeps feeding upon itself.

***Journaling your intentions and stating your goals on 'paper' is better than keeping accountable just in your head.

A big thank you to my son for wanting this so badly for me and urging me to get to it...
He first did so in September 2014 and once again he was on my case a short time back on March 21st, 2016.
Thank you Dr. McDougall who laid this WOE out so easily and understandable for me that I could take my sons good wishes and put them into action. The Starch Solution and Maximum Weight Loss are two books that I will promote just as feverishly as if I had written them myself. And thirdly, this forum and the ability to journal here, just as important and valuable than everything else...

Lots of work left to do... These are my short term and mid term goals:
Get to 212, that would be 100 pounds lost
Get to 199, I want to get under 200 again, I would feel so young, I haven't weighed in below 200 in decades lol
Get to 165 - 170, that would be considered in the upper limits of normal weight for my height

Thank you so much Safflower, I do feel great, better than I have felt in years...
My goal of 6 weeks of eliminating flour products was a huge success, if
I can achieve that, then I have no doubt that I will be able to lose the remaining weight.

My next goal is 8.5 pounds away and I will be down 100 when I get there.

The one after that is 21 pounds away and will put me below 200 pounds
for the first time since the 80s.

Cant wait!

Thanks again for stopping bye!

I'm glad you can work the rice in your MWL, lynns, I just can't stop eating it when I start it seems lol

Thank you, the walking is great, 6 miles each so far Monday and Wednesday, we are officially in our summer heat/torrential afternoon thunderstorm season so I'm a bit worried. I may have to walk inside the mall or find a building with a staircase I can climb. I'm not a big fan of gyms, the crowds, the sweaty machines, etc. Oh well, I'm definitely hooked on walking, I will make it happen one way or another.

Thank you for stopping by, I see you posting encouragement and advice all over the boards, you are a very nice, have a great day!

Chopped baked potato and iceberg lettuce salad with red vinegar and spicy mustard dressing, absolutely delicious! Especially after a 6 mile walk... I feel great...

More than a month in on walking 5-6 times a week and I've noticed the first negative... or is it a positive thing?

I found that I need less sleep. I usually need/want 8 hours of sleep but I find myself going to sleep a little later, restless during the night and waking up a little earlier... Hmmm? Is this a good thing or bad? I would love to get away with less sleep but I think we should shoot for at least 7 and more like 8 hours, no?

Odd. I find when I am inactive, I am more restless. When I walk to work and back, and briskly, I sleep better. Maybe it is just that you are getting older.. errr uummm. I mean more mature.. or experienced. or whatever.

I think I'll quit while I'm ahead. ;)

Funny, the more I'm lazy, the lazier I get... The more I move, the more I want to move...
Oh well, I don't mind an extra hour of awake time, 7 hours is still good, let's see how it goes.

But I can not believe how much I enjoy walking and how I am not looking for excuses not to walk but instead looking for ways to find time to do so... Life, what a journey...

Oh.... Yes, I'm getting old, actually, I am already there lol

Thank you lynns, I hadn't realized the good doctor had written an article on insomnia..
You're right, I don't have anything closely resembling insomnia but unfortunatly my wife has her bouts... I will let her read the technique described in the article, thank you so much for the link!

Well, tomorrow is Mothers Day but were gonna celebrate the whole weekend... Mama deserves some extra attention so were off to a vegan restaurant, the beach, some shopping, a movie perhaps and whatever else we can cram in.

Happy Mothers Day.

"Life"...

You know, people say it to explain away all that's wrong, stressful and disappointing. It's usually said with the shrug of the shoulders, a forehead palm or a shake of the head side to side...

And if you happen to have an eating disorder of any kind or significance, "life" is usually followed up with some comfort food.
Or a lot.

Well, I'm gonna take a moment here an give myself a big old pat on the back... "Life" keeps on keepin' on but not the way I respond to it. I now respond to "life" by not caving in to food like I used to. Instead of pizza, pasta and bagels, now I eat beans, potatoes, veggies and I walk. A lot.

And believe me, "life" is being slung at me like never before...

As I start MWL Week 8, I am very cautiously optimistic at most and very proud of my achievements so far at the very least.

What TSS did for me to re: SAD, MWL is doing for me re: TSS... In the sense of taking me above and beyond heights I never, ever imagined attaining.

A brief word or two about going cold turkey. It works. Ditch whatever it is NOW. Don't look back. Ever. Be it animal products, processed foods or anything but wfpbno...

#grateful

Foot problems.. that is exactly my problem.

I visited the podiatrist, and got the orthopedic insert for my shoes, and I used them for several months. They gave me a different kind of pain that never went away. So now I do not use them, and my feet feel better, but still some pain. It may be a type or arthritis trying to get a foothold (did you see what I did there?;)

I have been on this woe for two months now. I was hoping the foot pain would be gone by now, but it isn't. So I use my bike a lot to get my exercise. I also walk to work and back, which per day is about 5 KM (3 miles roughly).
