I am a 53 year old female and I was diagnosed with osteopenia many years ago. I am an avid cyclist and I have lifted weights 2-3 X a week since I was 45. After a year of eating a McDougall diet I wanted to see if my bone density had improved so I succumbed to a bone density test. I was told I have osteoporosis. My doctor said I could wait a year to be retested and if it isn't better, he thinks I should take drugs. Now I have read enough to know that the tests will always show we have osteoporosis. So. should I just dismiss this test and my doctor's concerns? I AM NOT going to take medicine! Is there more I can do with my diet or lifestyle to strengthen my bones?
