I was visiting family in Atlanta. (Staunch Atkins and processed foodies) Tired of the good natured heckling for my food choices, I went to Whole Foods to buy a couple items. A woman was offering samples of Vega shakes. I told her I preferred a whole food approach (that is the name of the store.) We started talking and I said, "Well I am vegan." (Easiest term to use.) She said, "Wow! You are a healthy looking vegan. Your skin even looks great." I asked what she thought vegans usually looked like. She said very thin and gray toned skin. I told her those people were probably avoiding starches which are very important. I walked off to continue my shopping. She found me again on another aisle and said, "How did you learn to do vegan the right way? Did you take a class? I want to give it a try." I told her the best thing she could do was read the Starch Solution by Dr. John McDougall. She said she would go look it up tonight. After several days of defending my eating, it sure was fun to represent the McDougall way of eating in a positive way.
