I had a dream last night I was talking in person with the group! I was explaining how hard it was in this world to do the healthy living( yesterday I ate my greens before I took a friend out for b day we went to American style restaurant where I spent $ 10 on oatmeal and a tiny cup of fruit, now I was proud of myself knowing that the money was well spent and I felt great for rest of day because of it but the frugal part of me was not happy about it! I then was at a store that has the most amazing smoked salmon and it's close to my b day too so I got it small piece I think that's ok for a rare treat. Then I was at burger king for dinner, I packed up something very quick for me to eat before we left. Then it's singing happy b day to a very special person with people who I had just met and got handed a very small plate of cake and ice cream -I just ate it , I could have done it other ways but I have passed on this with family before and kind of felt bad or I could have just eaten a few bites and not the whole thing! Then I Ended up back at burger king this time at drive thru to pick up fries and rings and I thought why not add the taco for a dollar and the new cheesy tots for a dollar - for my hubby but why would I do that to him? Who was I last night? Anyway I had three cheesy tots dipped in sauce , I had also asked for my favorite sauce!) Anyway in my dream I was explaining that it's hard to do the whole day so full of ways to go off track.

When I type my thoughts can flow faster than I can physically write them down.

So YES, I'm in.

Who wants to join me?

I just joined you! I decided last night after writing the post that I would post my exact goals for the next couple of months. Good luck Annette.

Amy....as usual it is always inspiring to read your well written, encouraging, real and inspiring posts....so human. I hope you are able to continue as Team Leader for an extended period as you have so much to offer and we do appreciate your investment in us. Thank you so much.

Belana, I really related to your Oct 27th post. I am still on and off the wagon since February (whoa....time flies ... but alas weight doesn't without the effort). There is a lot of wisdom coming from the team members....take it in...give yourself a pat on the back for being here and just keep on keepin' on. Good effort will produce good results...you got this!!!

Sirdle, thanks for the link to your tribute. To be loved and remembered beyond death is a tribute to both of you. Some relationships bring us alive while others can bring us closer to an emotional death. You are fortunate that you experienced the former and that it continues to sustain you. I hope that you are inspired to write beautifully from joyous experiences as well....a good read! Congrats too on being 'at the door' of your goal.

Laurag: LOL to myself because I got so engrossed in reading your food escapade that I forgot it all started out as a 'dream'.....I am so relieved as you'd be sicker than a dog as the saying goes.

Annette, I am inspired by your journey. Since my start and goal weights are the same as yours (sounds like comparisons, right? ....but not really) I am staying encouraged that it is all possible. I chuckled over your comment about writing vs typing....I have said the same thing on several occasions for various reasons. Good luck on your journal and journey!

I have been taking UV treatments for the past 3 months for psoriasis (a second go around from a successful but temporary 2017 series) . Though Jeff had said to focus on the MWL first and the underlying 2nd (which I did when I was experiencing a successful MWL run) I find that I must now incorporate changes to deal with both because the 'nightshades' are, I believe, inhibiting my progress with my treatments. Soooooooooo I'll be cutting out white potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, and peppers which REALLY leaves me even more limited. Of course cutting out the dairy when I am off program will help too. I am already craving the regal white potato as I write :).

Thank you everyone for your open and genuine sharings...they are a gift. All the best by you and for you this week and 'to infinity'. :-D

I haven't read farther down to see if there are responses, but I love dream analysis. My interpretation of your dream is as the "slippery slope." It's so easy to go down the wrong path. You started off right, you were strong, it was the start of the new day. We are often stronger and more determined first thing in the morning. Then the little slips started, and you continued to try your hardest to be good, to catch yourself before you fell in too deep. But by the end, you had totally fallen and then were trying to rationalize why.

Which is exactly what you were saying at the end when you were explaining your reasoning.

Nothing can be more clear and you are totally aware of it.

Another way of looking at it is that we can't even take that first bite. If you had made the choice not to eat the salmon in the first place, the result would have been totally different. Alas, controlling a dream isn't always possible.

Then I'd look for triggers, since you mentioned Burger King twice. I drive by a Burger King right near my house and I smell the frying, which I think smells good still. McDonalds will trigger me even more to be honest. There is a McDonalds right next to my Natural Grocer store, and when I was there recently and it was lunch and I was hungry and I could smell it...I was thinking how people say you lose your taste for it. Heck no! I could eat that burger and fries in an instant. I haven't eaten in a fast food restaurant since February though.

Ha, my journey is the long and winding road, but I do know, honestly know, that I will get there. This has been such a positive change for me and also for my head. But I won't deny it's not a struggle. Who would have known there are so many yummy HEALTHY foods that can keep one from losing weight.

I too have psoriasis, only on my scalp though. It's quite mild at this time. But still annoys me. I just haven't had any luck yet figuring out a trigger, because it's not being triggered...it just is there. For me, scalpwise, a mild shampoo every few days with a gentle scrub seems to be okay. I will still water wash and scrub (rubber scalp scrubby thing) daily too. But I found using strong shampoos made it worse, which is probably related to my extremely dry skin and eczema.

Hi everyone ! I didn't report last week because I started on the weekend. For this week, it looks like I didn't lost any weight.. but I feel so much lighter (and in my cloths too!). I live in France, so my scale is in kilograms (1kg = 2.2lbs), I may just not be able to see the smalls changes.

Hey Annette, ME TOO! weird. I have tried so many shampoos, and now stick with a very mild (few chemicals) one and only shampoo every few days. When I stopped eating 'wheat' (mostly whole wheat bread), I noticed that my scalp itch greatly improved. But it's very annoying.

I liked your dream interpretation; very insightful.

Good morning everybody,

I was cruising all week on a lower # (185) until this morning's weigh-in, when I was up a pound. What the heck? Probably salt from something I ate yesterday but what? I made a stir fry (Jeff's fast food approach is what I like to do) with a new package of frozen veggies (riced sweet potato, edamame and cauliflower), plus beans, a can of tomatoes, added spinach and some chopped bok choy, served over basmati rice. Also this week I have been enjoying the delicious split pea soup with carrots & potatoes. The steamed acorn squash with peas and rice is good too, very filling. I too will eat steamed broccoli, potatoes and carrots for a meal. I no longer label my meals as 'breakfast', etc. It's just food as fuel now.

So I did lose 1 lb this week and I'm grateful for that. I started a new allergy medication last week and have been worse. Miserable week, and I'm going back to the regime that worked better for me. I have chronic rhinosinusitis, for years, with allergies, nothing really to be done for it, and I'm not interested in surgery. Stopping dairy didn't help. I'm really healthy, except from the neck up! Oh well. It's manageable.

10/17/19 weight is 189.8
10/24/19 weight is 189.2
10/31/19 weight is 188.2
11/7/19 weight is 187.4
11/14/19 weight is 186.4 -1 lb. I'll take it!

Now I'm thinking about Thanksgiving and what food I will take to the big family/friends table. Probably going to make a quinoa/rice pilaf dish that I can add to steamed acorn squash.

I do appreciate reading from everybody. Thanks for sharing.

Marsha

Last Thursday: 159.0 (BMI 23.6)
Today: 157.4 (BMI 23.4)
Change: -1.6 pounds

Goal: < 148 (<BMI 22)

Sixth consecutive week of either a loss or, in one case, no change.

Strict MWL compliance seems to work for me.

I recently posted two new entries on my infrequently updated journal here:

I'm up 4 lbs. (172 lbs) :crybaby:
I spent several days staying in a motel and eating in restaurants this last week. I made poor choices. I was hoping the gain was from sodium and my weight would drop back down but I've had trouble staying compliant to MWL foods since I returned home. Argh!

I've noticed the same thing in the past: once starting to eat non-MWL foods, it takes effort to get back on plan. Whereas I have no desire for non-MWL foods when I'm on plan and not eating pleasure-trap foods or salt.

Sometimes for social reasons I would eat with friends at vegan restaurants and have oil, salt, etc. This would trigger a period of more off-plan foods. (I've been strictly vegan since the 1970s and would never willingly break that.) So now, I make sure in advance there's something I can eat at a restaurant and/or eat before I go.

Jeff Novick has posted about how he has often traveled a lot, and has strategies for eating on-plan, including an in-room microwave and small refrigerator.

My weight is once again, basically the same (within a 0.1 lb on the scale.) Time for me to put a little work and effort into this and stop maintaining. I can work on maintaining later when I'm done, right?

Oh, and I did do my goals yesterday in my Journal, and later when I went back it wasn't there. Obviously I forgot to his the save button, as I was working on some silly formatting and clicked preview a bunch of times. Ugh...now I have to do it all over again. I guess that means I was meant to rethink a few things, lol.

Goal for this week is to actually do the plan and see a 146 some time during the week...come on girl, you can do it!

October 31 - 147
November 11 - 148 (+1 lb)
November 14 - 148 ( 0 lb -/+)

Laura - I want to keep you in the tally, even if you aren’t weighing in right now. You are on the board and maybe that will nudge one or two decisions towards better adherence this week than if you weren’t checking in. That’s my reason for continuing to be here too; Keep my mind on the game even when my body is rebelling. I see we have some expert dream analysts here. :) I’m not one of them, admittedly, but it sounds to me like you are sorting through some very rational fears that you come across each day. Even in sleep we can’t escape this...ugh! LOL. You mention talking to the group in person in your dream and I will say having real live connections with people eating this way makes it much more enjoyable. If you have Meetups or potlucks in your area I recommend attending if you are at all social. I also find Facebook is an adequate proxy when there isn’t anyone in the vicinity to get together with. Here is a link to the official McDougall FB pages:The McDougall Message and Social Media. Jeff Novick and Dr. Lisle also have professional pages on FB.

Michele - XO, I appreciate your kindness. We’re all so human and that makes us perfectly imperfect! It’s great to hear from you. Keep it coming!

Alishana - I’ve had a similar week. Clothes feeling looser but the scale’s not cooperating. We’ll see progress next week, just keep working the fundamentals of the program. :)

Marsha - Congrats on being a pound down! Your food list looks fantastic; the scale will get it right next week...LOL. XO

Vegman - You’ve hit a 2 year low. That is wonderful! Congratulations on 5 months of strict adherence and more than 10 pounds down.

Moonlight - Sorry you’re struggling this week, but I see you’ve been making a plan to address it. Great journal post today! XO

Annette - Girl, you can do it! Focus those goals on how to improve your process - meal planning, shopping, preparation, and minimizing tempting situations. The weight loss will work itself out once those things are consistently addressed, as will the maintaining. (I know exactly what you’re going through. I know what level of adherence that I need to make this comfortable and am now onto consistent implementation and no more hiding in plain sight!)
