Bunso Personal Challenge

Postby bunsofaluminum » Wed Mar 18, 2015 3:18 pm

Starting today I am doing a six week challenge. (Six weeks because that will bring me to the end of April)
I plan to record my exercise and foods here, and maybe health related stats like weight or measurements. Energy level. Etc.

Today is DAY ONE
March 18

Exercise:
20 minutes yoga stretches
35 minutes brisk walk
50 pushups (off a park bench)

Food:
B: oatmeal with cinnamon and cocoa, honey as sweetener
L: yam/sweet potato, broccoli, saute'd onion and cabbage
D: black bean soup
S: dark chocolate

I feel super tired. Fell asleep in my chair last night until 3:00 a.m. and slept in until after 7:00.

March 19
DAY TWO

Exercise:
60 minutes brisk walk. Leg stretches.

Food:
B: Didn't eat brekkie because I gorged on garbanzo beans last night
L: black bean soup, half a nuked sweet potato
D: Cheezy steel cut oats and spinach
S: a little bit of chocolate

I ate two bowlfuls of garbanzo beans last night. THEY WERE SO GOOD...I cooked them until they were mush (I actually left them until all the liquid had boiled off and ALMOST burned them. First time EVER I've gotten them to the consistency that I like.)

So anywayzzz, I did overeat, but I had a day of 100% MWL foods compliance :)
yay me!

March 20
DAY THREE
Exercise: Dancing hard, shakin it GOOD, for 90 minutes. That was SO much fun
B: Cheezy steel cut oats with spinach
L: dal and cabbage over rice
D: large bowl of pho soup. YUM!

there's a Vietnamese place down the road, the O Mai! and a friend from work and I met there for dinner. Good stuff, maynard.

And then I went out dancing with a singles group, had a large beer. So, instead of chocolate, I had Cutthroat Ale.

when I weighed yesterday morning, I was down half a pound, which is good. I think I'll see a downward trend now. Doing this personal challenge was a great idea.

March 21
DAY FOUR

Exercise: rest day, my knees are telling me about it after all the dancing last night

B: oatmeal with cocoa, cinnamon, honey, and berries
Sn: handful of popcorn (off plan)*
L: dal and cabbage over rice
D: hmmm, don't know yet (ended up being a bowl of rice with green onion sliced in, and a tsp. sesame seeds on top)

* the popcorn I had was not low fat, being a pre-popped gourmet delicious treat made with oil, at a little class I'm attending. There were several highly processed "health foods" out for snacks and I chose the least processed item. I was hungry, there was more than an hour of class, and I had a total of less than a cup.

March 22
DAY FIVE
I've made it five days! yeah babay!

B: an apple, a bowl of oatmeal with cocoa, cinnamon, berries, tiny bit of brown sugar, large banana
L: faux tuna (one of my faves these days) and saltines
D: maybe no dinner today, since I had a late lunch
S: G&B 85% dark chocolate

Exercise: 30 minutes total, dancing around the house. Santana! Shpongle! yesss! (my poor downstairs neighbor ha! but I did shake that thang GOOD!) Rested yesterday, because the Friday night dancing tore up my thighs. Like noodles, seriously. But I do love it, how quickly I recover from any exercise, and my stamina is increasing in leaps and bounds.

I've got my name in a drawing for a darling lavender bike with a basket on the front. Maybe I'll get it! And then it's biking to work, biking to the store, biking everywhere! :D

Lord let it be.

March 23
DAY SIX

Exercise: Oops. I didn't do anything ON PURPOSE as exercise. Though I was active around the house. Did a little bit of dancing. Walked for a few minutes every hour at work. Total of maybe 25 minutes?

B: cheezy steel cut oats with greens, mushrooms, berries
L: 1/2 c. faux tuna with veg stix
D: 2 c. faux tuna with veg stix and five saltines
S: chocolate
MS (midnight snack hahahaha): Asian style rice noodles

So there are a couple of off plan things here. Number one, I had twice the amount of chocolate than I usually allow myself. Brutal work day...um...ticked off at the world...uh...disgruntled at having to be at work. Also, the rice noodles. They aren't considered calorie dense, but I ate a lot of them, and late-ish at night.

The five saltines...yeah. Not on plan, but truly not very many. It was just the tail end of a sleeve, and I think saltines are better than a slice of bread, MWL-wise.

And I consider the day a triumph, because what I wanted to do was make buttered popcorn when I got home from work...and I didn't. I ate noodles. Yay me!

Good. We have to pat ourselves on the back when we make those decisions.

March 24
DAY SEVEN

Exercise: 40 minute walk of joy, in the park, under the blossoms and buds, in birdsong. It was delightful. Heart health, in every way.

B: cheezy steel cut oats (I made a LOT of this and now I have to plow thru it...not wonderful)
L: nuked yellow potatoes with lentil soup over the top YUM
S: 2 c. popcorn :(
D: fake tuna and veg stix. An apple. A few saltines.
S: chocolate

(I got my period and the munchies are fierce. I didn't overdo it on the amount of popcorn, but definitely off plan)

March 25
DAY EIGHT

well, this was an off plan day, plain and simple.

I had a funeral and ate a small helping of funeral potatoes (loaded with fat and probably some cheese in there. Is there cheese in funeral potatoes?) I also had regular Ranch dressing on the salad, and a whole wheat bun.

After the funeral, I went out to eat with my boyfriend, to Olive Garden. I love their minestrone, and had the endless soup and salad. Oil in both the soup and the salad dressing. *sigh* so...off plan. I can say, I did not overeat anything. I had small helpings of each (seconds on the soup)

March 26
DAY NINE

Exercise: 40 minutes walk, twice (walked to work, and will walk home)

B: cheezy steel cut oats (ugh, I will never make so much of this again)
L: fake tuna and saltines
D: edamame and a piece of fruit (I forgot to bring my lunch, and I forgot my wallet AND I walked to work hahaha. But we have a market here, and you put money on your card, and I have a little bit of money left so I'll make do.)

Cheezy steel cut oats is actually a delicious dish. Here is the recipe http://www.happyhealthylonglife.com/hap ... -2013.html

I've made it many times on the stove top. YUM! and I've made other recipes of steel cut oats in the crock pot, YUM! but this time, I made a huge batch of this recipe, in the crockpot. And, the recipe calls for adding spinach in the bottom of the bowl, as you serve it. I put a can of greens in (I have a LOT of this stuff, bought when I found canned greens for .30c a can...couldn't pass it up, and wish I had. Canned greens are not delightful)

well, it tastes "okay" but it looks literally like crap, and the taste of it is not good enough to counter how really horrible it looks. Seriously, it would work in the movies, for a plot line involving backed up toilets or something. Dirty Jobs! ha! Blch. I ate it every morning this week, and today I tossed about a serving. I couldn't face the stuff another day, no matter what.

Not that I go out that much but if I am I always try to pick Olive Garden. Their minestrone soup has only 1-1.5 grm of fat. I have never noticed that I can see oil in it. I suppose an individual restaurant could be different though. I don't mind eating salad plain. The bread is a little harder to resist though. As long as I fill myself up with the soup, I am good to & do not miss the bread.

yeah I think you're right about the soup. I've never seen globs of fat on the surface, now that I think about it. The salad comes pre-dressed, though. I guess I could ask for no dressing, or dressing on the side, for the salad.
