MARCH 2015 McDougall Weigh In Group

Postby Debbie » Sun Mar 01, 2015 7:48 pm

March....MARCH...it is already the beginning of the 3 month of the year. Already. Where did the time go? Here is the March weigh in thread. We have had some great momentum so far. Let's keep the momentum going.

But as we start the 3rd month of 2015 some questions.....

Have you used the first two months of 2015 wisely?

Are you beginning the 3rd month of the year in about the same place as the first month of the year?

If the answer is yes, what things will you do differently in this 3rd month to make progress towards your goals?

If the answer is now, what things will you do to continue on your journey of renewed health?

Only you know the answer to these questions. No one else can answer them for you. Our destinations are the same, good health, but our journeys are vastly different.

Hi Debbie and all to follow. I'll be back on Friday with my WI info, but just wanted to jump on to say I'm in this month. It's been a rough winter with family illnesses and work stress, but I am ready to hold myself accountable again and start making some healthy choices!

Hi,
I was sort of tagging along to the January group, but had a bad 6 weeks or so, binge eating and drinking too much. I am aware of the guidelines and am keen to get back into the healthy habits! I am trying to coax my wife to sign up too. To make life easier, we are trying to get into a weekly food plan: Mediterranean Monday (that's rice with a tomato and onion based sauce for example), Tuber Tuesdays (Baked Potatoes with some savoury topping), Mexican Mittwoch (German for Wednesday), this will be corn and bean based, Simple Strvtok (Slovak for Thursday), boiled potatoes, baked beans and some green vef, Fun Friday (a guest dish), Souper Saturday, a pearl barley based thick soup, so no bread needed, and Sunday would be vegan Sunday dinner: mashed potatoes, carrots, peas, cabbage etc, with a veggie gravy.
All well in theory, let's see how it works in practice!
Any good tips for getting into healthy habits much appreciated. Currently 96 kilos, or 211 pounds. Dreaming of breaking back through the 200 pound barrier!

Hi -

This is my first time doing something like this online, but I think it will help my commitment level to weight loss this month. About a year ago, I joined a CHIP program (Complete Health Improvement Program) which is whole foods plant-based. Since that time, I have lost about 13 pounds - having fallen off the wagon a time or two! ;-)

I am helping with this newest session of CHIP, so am using the upcoming month to work hard on myself as well. Exercise is an issue for me, as I HATE it, but can do 11-15 minutes on a stationary bike. I also plan to work really hard on monitoring fat intake. That's a tough one!

I'm looking forward to doing well during March and moving forward. Thanks in advance for the support!

Hi, first-timer here... after attending the ten day program 2 1/2 years ago, I've been able to keep the "fat" pretty much at bay... feeling and looking thin, but for the first time in 6 months, I have zero activity! I won't go into the reasons, but I can see that I no longer can "get away" with a few "naughty" things, such as too much whole wheat bread, some peanut butter here and there, some jam with no sugar added.... just enough bad stuff to make a difference. Sooooo, that's my confession and that's why I'm here! I am so looking forward to it... thanks!

It's been a couple of years since I last posted here, but I've developed some bad habits and need to get back on track. I got down to 135 and stayed that way until I decided (along with everyone else, particularly my kids) that I really looked healthier at 145. So then I stayed there until last year when I went to Hawaii to visit my college roommate, and it's mostly been downhill from there.

So today is the day for me to really re-commit to MWL. :D

OK, I was a bit off schedule last week. Instead of my Thursday weigh-in I had to push it out until Friday because of a meeting at work, but I'll be focused on staying to my weekly ritual this month.

Anyway, I'm down 2 pounds with the 1 day short weigh-in:
2/27/2015 215.8
3/5/2015 213.8 (-2.0)

I've been a bit too loose with the refined carbs and it seems like it's getting harder even though I have another like 50 pounds to get to McDougall healthy, so I better start to knuckle down a bit more than I have been over the last couple of weeks.

Congrats to all us losers.

Stay healthy and start March on the right note.

Mark

Down 0.4

I was inspired when my sister pointed out how many of you come back to MWL when you "fall off the wagon" instead of looking for a different wagon. It's been a week of realizing just how much I rationalize cheating when under stress. I am going to dedicate the month of March to learning new and healthier coping mechanisms. Have a great weekend everyone!

Lost 1 lb!

Postby pmcdaniel » Fri Mar 06, 2015 6:48 am

I'm FINALLY making some progress again....only lost 1 lb, but I know where I was going wrong with diet and have fixed it.

Frustratingly, I'm struggling with the rheumatoid arthritis symptoms, and after seeing the hand specialist for trigger finger, I've found I have severe carpal tunnel syndrome. I've known that for 20 years and have dealt with it, but with the inflammation problems, it's worse now. I'll probably have to have surgery, but putting it off a few months at least.

Once I was feeling better, I wanted to back off of all of the RA drugs, but just stopping the NSAIDs this week, some pain has started creeping back! Even though I'm being extremely careful with my diet. I'm concerned I've done some permanent joint damage? I have a great doctor I'm working with but I'm worried I won't be able to reverse the inflammatory process without drugs.

For now, I'll just keep going with the starch plan.

Hi Debbie,

Thanks for running this! I enjoyed posting my losses!

That said, I'm back down to a healthy weight, and the thought of continuing to weigh in is really stressing me out at the moment. I'm going to just continue to be adherent and see where that leads. I might be back if I need more structure. Good luck to everyone!

I lost 1 pound this week.
I'm doing well sticking with the plan. A few disasters here and there, but they remain isolated incidents. I'm averaging about a pound a week and that is fine with me. 8)
I changed my ticker, the old one included the 10 pounds I lost last year. I floundered over the summer and restarted in earnest last November. The holidays were a little rough, but much better than usual.
