Stir Fry

Postby atmead » Tue Feb 03, 2015 10:39 am

Hello,

Just starting out on the MWL program. I love stir fry, but am looking for ideas on proteins to add to it other than the non MWL tofu, soy chiken or nuts. On idea I saw is using quinoa instead of rice as quinoa has double the protein.

Thanks.

I don't add a protein to my stir fry! I like it as just veggies over rice. I like a lot of mushrooms, which give kind of a meaty flavor to the dish.

No need to go chasing after protein. Rice and veggies are adequate. I like to add beans, my favorite being baby limas, which are similar to edamame, but not as rich. Quinoa doesn't have twice the protein anyway. 100g of cooked rice (brown or white) has 3 g of protein and quinoa has 4g. If you prefer quinoa, by all means have at it.

Green peas have 4 grams per 1/2 cup and black beans and garbanzos have 7.5 per 1/2 cup, brown rice has 5 grams per cup-http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/cereal-grains-and-pasta/5707/2
I find it easier to search google for food item than the site. This site will offer several or excessive amount of choices. Most of the time I do not specify raw or cooked, but the kale came up listed for raw on google, so I added cooked and it was first result i.e. Kale nutrition cooked - http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/veg ... cts/2462/2 . this site is a great resource and if you add up all your ingredients you may be surprised. You may also choose some different ingredients based on nutrition profile.Unless you are exercising heavily and or trying to gain muscle an average amount of protein provided by this diet is usually sufficient.
