Today's plan:

B1: Oatmeal & melon  (ate more than a cup of melon -- probably closer to 2 cups. half a small melon. I'm the only one who likes melon, so if I don't eat it, it will get tossed, and it was SO GOOD that I made an exception to the 2-fruits-a-day rule in this case.)
L4: Unfried rice
S1: Salad / melon  didn't eat the melon, which means I ended up not going over my fruits for the day. I just wasn't hungry again after dinner.
S2: Veg soup  ate chestnuts instead -- MWL compliant, but not what I planned
S5: Hummus & peppers  ate some roasted favas before bed instead. They accidentally got refrigerated instead of frozen, so they needed to be cooked up, and I love roasted beans.

Tomorrow's plan:
B1: Oatmeal & melon
L4: Unfried rice & salad
S2: Veg soup
S5: Hummus & peppers
S8: Roasted garbanzos or favas
S9: Slaw

S2: Veg soup - didn't eat.
S5: Hummus & peppers
S8: Roasted garbanzos or favas  ate with the salad from lunch, but ate it really late
S9: Slaw didn't eat

Not feeling good today, so I'm going to adjust my meal plan to make it as easy and mild as possible.

Previous plan:
B: rice & cucumbers
L8: Sweet potatoes and slaw
S2: Veg soup
S3: Berries
S1: Salad

New plan:
B: rice and a little kimchi (for flavor and probiotic quality)
L: Sweet potatoes
D: Sweet potatoes  didn't have my planned food, but my rice bowl was compliant
S: Sweet potatoes
S2: Chestnuts
I also have some chestnuts and canned soup in my desk drawer if I want something else, but right now, I'm thinking just keep it simple.

Plan for tomorrow: It's partner's birthday, and my plan for the year includes 3 "days off" -- my birthday, partner's birthday, and the kid's birthday.

Even though today is my "day off," I don't have any desire to go crazy. That's a win for me. We're going to have a non-veg meal for dinner, and possibly for lunch, too, but I'm having my MWL breakfast and not feeling deprived at all.

B: Apple, hashbrowns in the waffle iron, a little ketchup
S: Salad (mixed greens, tomato, chickpea miso dressing)
L: Non-veg lunch that partner made. Had whole grains, though, so not a total loss. (I will tell what these were, but I"ll leave some spoiler space below)
S2: Lettuce wraps filled with Mexican-seasoned corn
D: Non-veg dinner that partner made
S3: Sweet potato

Lunch was shredded wheat with poached eggs and butter.
Dinner was a very small piece of partner's sous vide steak (I'd say about 2 ounces) and a cup of corn (no butter).

Chestnuts are nearly a perfect snack for me. They don't have much fiber, but they are a whole plant food, have very little fat, are tidy to eat at my desk if I need to do that, and I like them okay, but I don't love them so much that I will binge on them. [Edit: and I have a Filipino grocery nearby that during the holidays sells them freshly roasted, YUM.]

Awesome journal, Idgie. :)

Thanks for mentioning water chestnuts, I'd totally forgotten about them. I'll have to get some this week as they will be a crunchy addition to my meals. The chestnuts that are roasted during the holidays are not water chestnuts, but tree chestnuts, right? I've never had roasted chestnuts, so was just wondering. Since I'm doing MWL, I'm not eating tree nuts.

Yes, chestnuts grow on trees (I wasn't talking about water chestnuts, but I love them, too, especially fresh), but they're very low in fat, so I do eat them on MWL, just not very often. They come in small pouches in my Asian grocery store, so I keep a couple small pouches in my purse and a couple in my desk drawer at work in case I get hungry and don't have time/inclination to stop for a meal.

Thanks, Idgie. I'm looking up chestnuts now on the forum. So far, found this thread where Jeff discusses them:

B: Sweet potatoes and shredded wheat
L: Sweet potatoes and salad  just the sweet potato; not that hungry at lunchtime
D: Sweet potatoes and salad  switched it out for a burrito bowl: quinoa, brown rice, kale, black beans, garlic, salsa, corn, peas, lettuce, hot sauce. Also had a diet soda.
S: Roasted garbanzos  switched it out for fat-free hummus and pepper strips
S2: Salad  -- greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, mushrooms, scallions, and the creamy pesto dressing I posted in the recipe forum today.
S3: Handful of fresh strawberries

D: Sweet potatoes and slaw
S: Roasted garbanzos
S2: Lentil soup
