What I'm eating

Postby Idgie » Fri Jun 29, 2018 1:29 am

I'm on day 8 of this plan, and I'm happy to be here. Here's what I ate today (well, yesterday, since it's a little after midnight here) . I've lost over 4 pounds in 1 week, and my hypoglycemia has not acted up all week. :-D

B: low-fat hummus on toast, banana
L: baked-potato salad (just potatoes, vinegar, and spices), green onion pancake
S: kimchi
D: rice bowl with veggies & teriyaki sauce, cactus fruit, unsweetened iced tea

Hi Idgie! :-D

Sounds like you are doing great!! May I ask, how do you make buffalo chickpeas? This sounds delicious...

This year, I found this recipe http://thevegan8.com/2017/02/10/spicy-b ... an-hummus/ for buffalo hummus that is a crowd pleaser. Love it!! (but using Great Northern Beans)

Cheers,
Stephanie

Sunday is usually the day I cook batches of some stuff to grab during the week. I work full-time, but my partner stays home and does the dinner cooking during the week. Today so far, I've made a batch of balsamic vinaigrette, a big batch of potato salad, and a jar of baba ganouj. The baba ganouj has a little tiny bit of tahini in it, so I probably will not make it any more after this jar of tahini runs out, or I'll make it without the tahini.

Speaking of tahini, I was posting on the weigh-in thread without realizing it's only for the MWLP people, and I'm not quite there at the moment. I'm losing more than 4 pounds a week, so I'm not actually worried about it, but for now, I'm getting closer all the time, but am not yet at 100%. I have decided to put asterisks by the foods that have non-MWL items in them, and go back to the MWL board if/when I get to 100%.

I also downloaded one of those apps that takes pics of your day's food, so I'll post that when the day is done. Fun stuff.

B: Oatmeal with a little salt and pepper (no sugar/fruit)
S: Salad (greens, kidney beans, mushrooms, fat-free balsamic dressing: balsamic vinegar, dijon mustard, garlic powder)
L: Potato salad (potatoes, chopped pickle, pickle juice, a little baba ganouj*, green onions, vinegar, salt, pepper), 1 mango
S2: Diet coke* (grabbed while out running errands); another salad
D: Pasta with ratatouille* (partner's ratatouille has a little oil in it)
S3: Hummus* and low-fat crackers*

Stephanie: I just take chickpeas (I used frozen this time, and I like the texture) and toss them with Frank's Red Hot and Fox Point (optional; it's from Penzeys and is made of salt, freeze-dried shallots, chives, garlic, onion and green peppercorns), then roast them in a single layer on parchment paper until they're kind of crispy. They're a good snack for me. I read somewhere that it works even better to roast chickpeas if you toss them in beaten aquafaba first, but I haven't tried that.

Hi Idgie! That sounds great and I will try next time I roast garbanzos!!

On the MWL thread, I think you can participate. Just don't talk about non-MWL exceptions. Maybe like, I was x% compliant or something. It's such a friendly group - and supportive!!! I made a faux pas, but will visit the thread. I'm probably 90-95% compliant. People struggle at first. Don't lose great opportunity for support.

Best,
Stephanie

I appreciate @moonlight for posting the list of MWL rules from the book. It will help me as I move toward MWL. I plan to do MWL until I am at a comfortable, healthy weight. I'm moving toward it this summer.

Program outlined in the MWL book, page 60.

1. Eliminate All Animal Foods

2. Eliminate All Oils

3. Eliminate All High Fat Plant Foods: Nuts, Nut Butters, Seeds, Seed Butters, Avocados, Coconut, & Olives.

4. Eliminate All Flour Products

5. Eat Whole Grains and Potatoes

6. Eat Legumes

7. Make Green & Yellow Vegetables One-Half to One-Third of your meal

8. Eat Uncooked Foods (Vegetables)

9. Restrict Fresh Fruit to No More Than Two Servings a Day, and Avoid Dried Fruit, Fruit Puree, and Fruit Juice

10. Use Simple Sugar Sparingly

Dr. McDougall says, "Make exercise a part of each day".
