Buns in MWL?

Postby bunsofaluminum » Wed Jun 27, 2018 9:20 am

Taking a cue from Moonlight's journal, I thought I'd put this here. I may go for it, or this may be my way of sitting here and pondering it for a bit.

But what if I started tracking my eating with THIS in mind? Tracking my meals for the past six months has taught me several things, namely that I have a pattern of decent enough eating on the weekdays, and "feast days" or over indulging on weekends, and that has helped me modify a bit so now I am a tiny bit more careful on the weekends. Maybe I need this, to shift the rest of the way into 100%...hmmm...

At any rate, here it is, where I can find it easily.

Program outlined in the MWL book, page 60.

1. Eliminate All Animal Foods

2. Eliminate All Oils

3. Eliminate All High Fat Plant Foods: Nuts, Nut Butters, Seeds, Seed Butters, Avocados, Coconut, & Olives.

4. Eliminate All Flour Products

5. Eat Whole Grains and Potatoes

6. Eat Legumes
7. Make Green & Yellow Vegetables One-Half to One-Third of your meal

8. Eat Uncooked Foods

9. Restrict Fresh Fruit to No More Than Two Servings a Day, and Avoid Dried Fruit, Fruit Puree, and Fruit Juice

10. Use Simple Sugar Sparingly

Get some exercise every day

I realized something yesterday, standing in line at Cafe Rio...the place was packed; the line was long; I was hungry, having gotten out of the house with only a banana for brekkie. The food was good. I like Cafe Rio, and this time I avoided the dressing, and ordered my salad on a whole wheat tortilla, of which I had only a couple of bites, so that's good, right?

But ultimately, was it worth it? I paid $10 for a meal that I kind of had to rush through, since the wait took up almost half of my lunch break. The hub-bub in the place was beyond annoying; I ate alone amidst a cacophony of strange voices and faces (eating out with friends would have been so much more enjoyable)...possibly if I'd ordered online and it was waiting when I got there, and I could take it to a solitary place? but still...I think it wasn't all that, considering the cost. Then, you KNOW they use oil in preparing the beans and rice?

Yeah. Wasn't worth it for a regular lunch time.

today I stopped on purpose at the grocery store on my way to work, and bought the largest baking potato on the pile. I then grabbed a likely looking salad mix (I will leave the vinaigrette off)...and it is Sizzler Style Salad for me today, lunchtime!

JULY 3

Program outlined in the MWL book, page 60.

1. Eliminate All Animal Foods

2. Eliminate All Oils
I used about 1/3 the salad dressing provided in my salad kit at lunch:|

3. Eliminate All High Fat Plant Foods: Nuts, Nut Butters, Seeds, Seed Butters, Avocados, Coconut, & Olives.

4. Eliminate All Flour Products
saltines ;-)

5. Eat Whole Grains and Potatoes

6. Eat Legumes

7. Make Green & Yellow Vegetables One-Half to One-Third of your meal

8. Eat Uncooked Foods
salad! twice!

9. Restrict Fresh Fruit to No More Than Two Servings a Day, and Avoid Dried Fruit, Fruit Puree, and Fruit Juice
watermelon twice, but also had a peach at brekkie ;-)

10. Use Simple Sugar Sparingly

Get some exercise every day
pool time? Maybe...

Here's the thing. Saltines are going to be part of my day at work. I have a nice bowl of oatmeal for breakfast every day. Sometimes Grape Nuts. For whatever reason, oatmeal empties out of my stomach pretty quick and I am always hungry at 10:30...so. I've taken to having a little (very small, tiny) snack of 5 saltines (that is one serving) and a handful or so of either carrot or cucumber slices. The saltines are crispy with a touch of salt, and low fat. And I always buy the whole grain variety...which of course are not 100% whole wheat BUT...All this to say, if five saltines a day (flour product) are going to boot me out of compliance, well then I'll be out of compliance, but I'm going to continue this way. It's working for me. It tides me over, and is doable at my desk.

Nothing, unless you count dusting off the dresser top and culling some earrings

On exercise. My plan was to do some pre-packing, in preparation for our move in September. This means going through our stuff and getting rid of things. Like, do we NEED three huge Tupperware bowls? So I started with a very dusty and cluttered dresser, and did get through all of the little lonely, isolated, unpaired earrings, and ditched several pairs of earrings that I don't wear anymore. And wiped everything down...and it used up all my spoons! Don't know what the issue was, but I had to sit down after that...what, 30 minutes?...bit of activity and I never got the gumption up again. That chore needs thinking about anyway. What to keep, what to give away. How to talk Wylie into releasing some of the hundreds of old t-shirts that he never wears. Etc.

but! no flour products yesterday! woot!

It's feeling really good! I watched the testimonial video of Jim Balla https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOhO5ImFiV0 and that really settled it in my mind. I'm doing this all the way, and no more messing around. The ONE thing I'm allowing myself outside of MWL guidelines is the saltines. They are the easiest low fat salty crispy thing, and I always eat only one serving, which is five crackers. Along with half a cucumber, sliced? Or a cup of carrot slices? It's a good mid-morning snack that I can nibble on at my desk. I might choose a different type of cracker, but for the price I really am okay with a few saltines. Stops me from eating other crispy salty snacks.

We had our "cousin reunion" yesterday after work, which was fun even with the heat. Oy, the heat! And I planned ahead, using both McDougall and No S guidelines. I knew I would fix one plate of food, no seconds, and I knew I would keep my meal as close to compliant as possible. Even brought my own fat free salad dressing  But, since it was a kind of special occasion, I allowed myself small tastes of treats: a small brownie, and a small Rice Krispie treat. Considering how my pattern has been to overindulge on these family feast days, that we manage to have every other weekend, I am SUPER proud of myself.

I didn't keep track over the weekend, but I did have peanut butter toast one evening, and I had candy yesterday. Oh, an omelet while out for dinner with family on Friday night.

It doesn't feel like a compliant weekend, but I didn't go nuts at every meal. Several off plan items, though. It was a strange weekend all round. My food choices reflected that. At any rate, here is the template for July 16...

Program outlined in the MWL book, page 60.

1. Eliminate All Animal Foods

2. Eliminate All Oils

3. Eliminate All High Fat Plant Foods: Nuts, Nut Butters, Seeds, Seed Butters, Avocados, Coconut, & Olives.
