Info (sorry if asked before)

Postby Lilyloui » Tue Jan 05, 2021 4:33 am

I have the starch solution on kindle purchased dec20.
But on some of the fb pages the things in the book are not now relevant.

I am in U.K. and can’t seem to get any updated books all are 2010 or earlier.

My question is can you use maple syrup sparingly? Also I don’t have salt but my family do so is using a small amount of salt on top ok? Apparently being hypothyroid I need some salt, I use sea or rock salt.

Has the SS been updated? If so where can I get it.
Thank you.

As far as I know, the Starch Solution is up-to-date, there is a different book that they are referring to (The McDougall Guide to Maximum Weight Loss).

Sweeteners are permitted (maple syrup, table sugar, molasses, honey, etc). Avoid artificial sweeteners (Splenda, etc).

Salt the top of your food. Avoid using while cooking.

I’m not sure if the salt/hypothyroid thing is real or just an internet myth. Anyone have some supporting info on this?

I think the salt is for supplying iodine which is critical to the thyroid gland.

I would think that if a person needs additional iodine that a supplement would be the best source for that. But I could be wrong.

Please consult a doctor regarding salt and hypothyroid. I did, and based on my test results she suggested either a small amount daily of IODIZED salt or a multi vitamin that includes iodine.

Any other kind of uniodized salt is just added sodium in your diet.
The McDougall diet is not salt free, if you limit it.

In my case, I prefer to be salt free, so I chose to try a multivitamin.
This was based on my medical history and advice from a physician who I trust. My thyroid was barely in the hypothyroid range ( and the range is quite controversial) and I had very moderate symptoms.

I am now back in the normal range but that's just one person's anecdote.

Bottom line: unionized sea salt won't help. Your doctor can advise about a safe way to supplement, if you actually need it. A little salt is not forbidden.
