McDougall Electronic Newsletters

Postby Poison Ivy » Thu Dec 06, 2018 6:42 am

I get them. I do not read them all. I do read some of them. I just read the one about Al Gore.

Question? Is Gore a healthy WFPB vegan or a junk food vegan? I just saw some recent pictures of him. To me, he still looks bloated and overweight? Am I the only one who sees this? What are your thoughts on what he might be eating or how much? According to what Dr. McDougall has said in some of his lectures, if you eat a strict McDougall diet, it is almost impossible to be come overweight.

Dr. McDougall says it's impossible to become obese if you are following this program rigorously. There will be variations in body weight as we are all different in terms of genetics. Some thinner, some heavier but no adherent McDougaller will be obese.
It is quite possible to be overweight and still be McDougall compliant. The rules of caloric density still apply.

Health is not a toggle switch, either on or off. Health is a dynamic process with gradations. It's possible to increase ones health as one moves toward a more optimum body weight and decrease ones health with the inverse. We all know various conditions can have their risk either increase or decrease with body weight.
That said being 180 lbs on a McDougall diet will always be healthier than 180lbs on a standard western diet.

Image I agree "somewhat" but I still wonder, what is he actually eating? Pictures speak much louder than words as they say. I am not 100% compliant and I am thin and muscular. Junk food vegans are no better or healthier than SAD eaters and any excess weight just compounds the problems.

I spend zero time worrying about what other people eat or how healthy they are. For one thing, you really can't tell someone's health level by what their body looks like, no matter what hard-core vegan activists will say. But more importantly, other people's health is none of my business -- they don't owe it to me to be healthy, and I am not entitled to their private medical information unless I'm their doctor.

(Poison Ivy, I don't think wanting to know makes you a bad person or anything. I just really think these kinds of speculations are pointless.)

I do not know what Gore eats then or now. He did lose some weight and looked healthier.
