Flu Shot

Postby gardenveg » Wed Dec 05, 2018 10:38 am

Hi Everyone,
My husband and I would like to know if the flu shot is safe.
We are perfectly healthy and have never wanted to take it but my son
Is insisting we take it or we are not allowed to visit our baby Grandson.
We would so appreciate any information anyone has on it. We would
want to take the lightest dose. I guess another way of saying it is it at
least benign?

Thank you,
Linda

It's safe. Some people on these boards will say it's often ineffective, and that can be true, since there are so many flu viruss, but the flu is a serious thing, and I make my whole family get it because my mother is old and refuses to, and she could die if she got the flu, so we take it to protect her, not ourselves.

Thank you Idgie,

I guess more specificically my concern is are there ingredients in the flu shot that can have lingering effects or can it interfere with your immune system? I would like to believe the
CDC but just wonder how vested they are in it.

Thanks Again

I agree with Dr. McDougall’s recommendation and personally do not get the flu vaccine.

That being said, I think you should get it. The odds of it causing you negative consequence is small, and new parents are overwhelmed with worry over every possible little thing. Odds are your arm will be a little sore for a couple days, and that will be the end of it. Totally worth it to mitigate their fears and get to see your grandson.
