Debated whether to send her the link to Dr. McDougall's newsletter. Was so glad to read what Dr. McDougall has to say about lectins. I put the book on hold at the library just so I could say I checked into the plan. Have absolutely no plans to change from WFPB way of eating. Doubt I can bring myself to even read it.
As soon as I figured out that Dr.Gundry was promoting supplements, knew it was a hoax thanks to Dr. McDougall. Have been in contact with my friend the entire time I have been following Dr. McDougall's Starch Solution and FOKs. She knows about all the improvements in my health over the past 4 and a half years. Yet, instead of following the SS or WFPB plan, she decides to follow Dr. Gundry. I just don't get it. She also has some serious health issues she is dealing with - not the typical heart disease, diabetes, etc. but some other issues.
My friend send me a link to a YouTube video of Dr. Gundry discussing the Plant Paradox book and lectin. I could not make myself watch it all the way through. The man comes across so insincere and condescending. Here is that link:

What really concerns me is a copy of a page my friend sent from the Plant Paradox in which a woman who supposedly was following Dr. McDougall for years with no real results changed to Plant Paradox and has been cured. I pointed out that from what the woman had to say about how she was eating, she was not following Dr. McDougall's SS. She was doing her own thing so no wonder she was not cured.
Don't want to end our friendship so trying to bit my tongue and not just go off on Dr. Gundry and why he is a fraud. If my friend can't see all the improvements in my health, nothing I can say will change her mind. From what I can gather so far, her diet is very restrictied now. Basically, she does not agree with completely eliminating meat, dairy, etc. But now she will restrict her diet for Plant Paradox. Go figure.
But you should just say, "It sounds like you and I are participants in a clinical trial. You have been assigned to the Plant Paradox diet. I have been assigned to the McDougall diet. In 20 years we'll find out which diet is better." And then just laugh.

Spiral,
What great advice! Sometimes we just have to be present for our friends, and keep our mouths shut. Hopefully those fad diets will be recognized as such eventually. Plant-based is far from a passing fad, as it keeps coming up from time to time, for the past few thousands of years! Truth speaks for itself.
