It's so scary to realize that millions of people aren't able to live a normal life on a daily basis, and nobody would even explain why it's happening.

It may also be that we have made it easy for people to not work and get disability income.

I was just having a discussion today with a coworker about the number of people we know who seem capable of working but yet are on disability. I know that there are many ailments that are not easily noticed just by looking at someone. I cannot speak about people I do not know, but I know several people who could work but are getting disability. And then I know people who should have been on disability but worked until they retired. There is a strong mental component that contributes to both of these groups. The ones not working have a self-image that shows them as a victim. Everything happens to them and they have no control over it. The ones who were disabled yet worked had a can-do spirit and a sense of pride in being able to work and support themselves. Again, these are the people I know personally and I cannot make general statements about anybody I do not know.

I don't mind working but hate getting up in the morning and driving in traffic.

i suspect that many of these men did damage to themselves in youth when they played high school football or hockey. then a lifetime of poor diet exacerbates the damage.

i hated long drives to work, too. now i ride my bicycle and life is much sweeter. the "commute" is a joy now (except for when it's pouring rain) but it took a lot of work to be able to afford a place that was within biking distance!

I would expect the article to suggest a link between the obesity epidemic and lost work, since weight puts stress on joints. Maybe it is not politically correct to suggest this.

I work in a high school and every day I see male teachers in their 40s limping along with various braces and other surgical devices on their legs. There are "sprains" and "old sports injuries playing up" and various other explanations etc. Then when these braces come off they are moving stiffly and as far as I can tell I have never seen anyone go back to being sprightly and fit looking.

I have noticed that most of these guys are "heavy set" i.e. looking like the all American hero football player. It's such a shame, these are handsome mid life men of all ethnicities who are prematurely aged by the SAD diet.
