The 1949 okinawa diet was also low in nuts and fruits. Seaweed at < 1%. Pickled vegetables are very common in asia so it is a bit strange that the 1949 okinawa diet had 0% pickled vegetables. I have been to japanese grocery stores and they are usually full of pickled vegetables. Oil was at 2%. Beans at 6%. Fish at 1%. I am not sure why papaya was classified as a vegetable. In asia, some cook unripe papaya as a vegetable.
