FoundMyFitness Podcast

I subscribe to this podcast. and today the host had Roy Cronise. I know he's not all that beloved here. But, in spite of the thermogenesis and cryogenics hype, they mostly discussed fasting, in this case a 28 day medically supervised fast . And most of what he had to say was dogma in these parts. I'm posting in case you are interested:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/foundmyfitness/id818198322?mt=2&i=368010679
If it brings up the list, it's the one with the May 3 release date.
The podcast is always into micro management of lifestyle. The problem for me is always more how than why to adopt this WOE, but it can be interesting to speculate how all these great benefits of McDougalling occur at the molecular level. I liked the last talk Dr. Fontana did as well, and conversations like this remind me of that.

I didn't know there was anyone who doesn't like Ray Cronise. I DO like him, and happily listened to this podcasts with him!

He talks in this podcast about the boogeyman of metabolism -- the dumb myths that won't die. He says, "In three years, I have never once measured someone with a broken metabolism." He says metabolism basically tracks with body mass -- and describes what "metabolism" is in very specific scientific terms. So needed in this culture of dumb pseudomyths that have become central to a dumb, dumb discussion!

Another thing I love is that he talks about the chronically fed body -- the body that is fed meals and snacks from sun-up to sun-down. I sense, from personal observation, that chronically fed bodies are not the way. Humans do seem to need breaks from the onslaught of food and more food, and while there is getting to be a decent body of knowledge on the benefits of Intermittent Fasting, there is not yet any data or dialogue (that I know of) on the damage & dangers of being a chronically fed human.

It's just so freshing to hear someone who is not in lock-step with the talking points of the plant-based community!

(For example, I am so tired of hearing about McDougall and Esselstyn and Pam Popper, talk about how a SAD diet affects male orgasm, but no one ever bothers to talk about female orgasm. Is it impacted by a SAD diet? Is it improved by a plant-based diet? Does anyone notice or care? They don't seem to!)

I had understood that he was once a member of the forums but left because we did not embrace the thermogenics revelation (revolution?).

I agree with most of your other points. I heard him on The Rich Roll podcast and found him easier to listen to on this one. A lot of what he says seems very in keeping with my understanding of WFPB living.

Thanks! Always nice to hear about other stuff to put on my (long) list of things to listen to.

roundcoconut - I am in agreement about the focus on male reproductive health, here and in the medical community in general. I dare you to watch a week of TV without encountering at least one Viagra (or other ED pill) advertisement.

And, you know, it always strikes me as so tacky that plant-based doctors discuss the erectile difficulties of SAD eaters with a certain amount of ridicule and glee.

It just seems so unprofessional! People raised on a SAD diet, who find themselves sexually impaired now -- this is fun for us??? What is WRONG with people!

I am waiting for them to realize that if they really want to, they can make fun of people experiencing incontinence. Like, isn't that along the same lines? Like: "Ha ha, look at the sick people peeing their pants!"

I question the morals of this entirely, and yet, when I listen to someone like Ray Cronise, he's not engaging in those talking points at all. So happy to hear this!

Yes, that is true and it's tolerated with a chuckle and an elbow to the ribs. If flipped around, they would not say that women who eat SAD and have fertility problems should be ridiculed. I get that they are trying to "sell" this WOE, and that hits certain men right where it counts.
