Australian man goes on potato diet, gets HUGE publicity

Postby Morrigan » Tue Feb 02, 2016 9:48 pm

Wonder if the "American doctor" mentioned in this brand new Feb 3rd article is John McDougall MD?

Hi

Thanks for sharing, that is so awesome.

Here's his Day 1 video. I had to laugh when he said he had a backpack full of potatos. What came to my mind was: Ohh who knew that the potato diet also came with the potato fitness program: walk to the grocery store, fill a backpack full o potatos, walk home. You get your aerobics and strength fitness all in one. LOL

He was really funny, very laidback, typical Aussie. I like his style for making potato rosti, yum!

Day 34 has 3 different TV stations in Australia that picked up the story.

People magazine with mention of Dr. McDougall in the comments

Personally I think he'd be better off adding in some veggies..leafly greens, as well as beans, etc.
But the reason he's getting coverage is because its "Spuds Only".... You've got to have a "catch" to grab the news.
Spud Fit is a very catchy title.

I like his 'hash browns' recipe. I have his page bookmarked. Good luck to him. He already looks better after just one month. Can't wait to see how he's doing in a year.

1 large potato has about 50 mgs of calcium and sweet potatoes have about 75 mgs of calcium. So if he ate just 10 large potatoes a day (Im sure he eats far more than that) he'd get about 500 mgs of calcium or just 10 sweets a day it'd be about 750 mgs of calcium.....we dont need as much as the SAD doctors and media suggest we do. Most people take in far too much. And much of that calcium is available for his body to use and he won't be leeching calcium from his bones due to his diet being so acidic from meat and dairy.

Hi guys
I'm the spud fit guy you're talking about. Nice to meet you all! I would have joined this forum from the start if I knew it existed! To answer a couple of questions, yes the American doctor who's mentioned in that article is Dr McDougall. I watched a fantastic video of his as part of my research but I read and watched a lot more than that over the course of a number of weeks so that article is a bit misleading I think, to make it sound like I just watched the video and decided to do it. For calcium I'm using a small amount of calcium fortified organic soy milk when I make mash. I don't think that's necessary though, it's just a precaution really. Well it's pretty cool to join the McDougall discussion forum and find myself being discussed!

Cheers

Mahalo for bringing the message to the masses.

Thanks for the input on calcium! I'm enjoying the youtubes....keep it up! You're looking great, and a great advertisement for the lowly potato.

Hi Mate,

I watched one of videos where you made a potato hash brown (or pancake) without oil. This is something that very few people do so my guess is that Dr McDougall's use of no oils is the reason you do not use oil when making hash browns.

Cheers,
Peter
