See Dr. McDougall's advice on screening: https://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2014nl/aug/early.htm

The stool DNA test is a very interesting method, that is covered by Medicare. This is the website: http://www.cologuardtest.com/how-to-talk-to-your-doctor/download-discussion-guide

The order form is printed out, handed to your doctor to sign, and faxed to the company. The company then sends a kit to send the stool back. Before someone does this test it is important to read the following:
How effective is Cologuard?
In a 10,000-patient clinical study, Cologuard found 92% of colon cancers. It also found 69% of high-risk precancers (high-grade dysplasia), those most likely to develop into cancer.
Both false positives and false negatives do occur. In a clinical study of Cologuard, 13% of people without cancer or precancer tested positive. Any positive should be followed by a diagnostic colonoscopy. Following a negative result, patients should continue participating in a screening program at an interval and with a method appropriate for the individual patient. Cologuard performance when used for repeat testing has not been evaluated or established.

Only a detailed discussion with the doctor can determine whether this test is right for the person, because if the risk is high (genetic risk such as HNPCC or a strong family history of colon cancer), or if there has been previously abnormal colonoscopy or a history of polyps, or if there are any symptoms such as bleeding, then this test is not right for you.
