The Satiety Index (SI)

A little explanation.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7498104

And the pubmed reference from the original 1995 research.

Do you think it's valid? Useful? Accurate?

From first link
The results of Holt's study, like many similar studies, indicate that satiety is most strongly related to the weight of the food consumed. In other words, the foods that weigh the most, satisfy our hunger best, regardless of the number of Calories they contain.
This is what Jeff says all the time in regards to calorie density. Potatoes, our old friends, are fairly low calorie but quite heavy and ta-da!!!! the most satiating of all foods in tests.

So yes, very valid and useful. Aim for lower calorie, higher weight foods as your staples i.e. starches. Sounds very familiar yes? ;)
