The Diet War's lob the 1st defamation lawsuit

Postby healthyvegan » Thu Feb 26, 2015 3:39 pm

I caught this on Instagram today. The #1 Bikini Body Ebook sale's person Kayla has threatened Durian Rider & Freelee (vegan weight loss) with a defamation lawsuit & to remove their negative comments about Kayla's 1600 calorie a day plan in combination with strenuous work outs.

Watch Durian Rider & Freelee's response.

I have no idea what kayla is selling but doesn't The Biggest Loser show feed the contestants an even lower calorie diet along with using several hours per day of strenuous exercise?

Can't listen to durianrider for more than thirty seconds because he can't construct an english sentence without the F word. I also can't make out what he is saying because of his rapid speach and inability to speak in any kind of coherent order.

fair point! its kind of their thing from being insanely frustrated with how simple the solution is & how impossible it is to communicate it to people.

It's incredible that Harley actually wore shorts and a T-shirt for his message:

Let's take a look at the tremendous support:

Lawsuits are always a crap shoot. Judge A might decide one thing and on the same case judge B might decide the exact opposite. It is the luck of the draw and who has the most money to persist in court.

Pritikin said the Atkins diet would kill people (it evidently killed Atkins) and Atkins sued and won. Someone who had been on the Atkins diet for two years had a heart attack and sued Atkins and lost. The judge said we have freedom of the press and anyone can write anything he wants. The guy did not have to follow the advice in the book. So what it looks like to me is that anyone can freely advise you to do anything but if you follow that advice and it causes you harm you have no recourse because you made that choice to follow that advice.

Lots of people will read about the lawsuit and Kayla will probably garner more money from the publicity than she would have without the lawsuit.

I do not know what Kayla is selling but if it is another calorie restricted diet it is no different from the advice your own physician might give you to eat less and exercise more.

It's a shame imo that both parties, who are clearly passionate about health, diet and positive lifestyle have escalated their disagreements into a conflict of this scale.

It's just me, Bikini side is more about her own wealth while pretending to be a picture of health. Banana side seemed to be more into health without stressing so much about wealth so far:

Based on some YouTube and Facebook comments, it's still a mystery since nobody could tell who's really behind the back of Bikini side. They're going after the Banana side by trying to silence Harley and Leanne. Maybe one of Kayla's sponsors fully supported such legal actions?

Harley should be getting used to litigation anyways, David Wolfe also tried to take a crack at that and it's just hilarious:

He just didn't care much about lawsuits anyways:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is not that Pritikin lost the lawsuit, but that his heirs caved in and settled after he passed away.

No you are right. The heirs settled. Atkins collected. I think Pritikin would have gone the distance. The point is that someone who advises something which many doctors in the past have considered a dangerous woe can continue (or those who bought his program and name can continue) to rake in money by fooling the public.

gary taubes, atkins, agaston, sears, donald miller, all the paleo guys and all the others who recommend diets that have the best chance of causing damage to health, appear to be not only on the winning side of lawsuits but evidently are off limits when it comes to criticism. And at the same time this government at least, promotes meat, dairy and eggs with taxpayer money while offering advice for healthy eating that is vague enough to prevent people from actually knowing what is healthful. While at the same time bemoaning the fact that obesity and related illnesses are costing the country a fortune in medical care and even putting people in danger because of the increasing girth of soldiers, firefighters and policemen. (Twenty seven percent of young men who volunteer for the armed services are turned away because they are too fat. About the same number who were turned away in both world wars because they were undernourished and too thin.)
