Prostate Enlargement (BPH)

The male prostate (the female has an analogous gland) is part of the reproductive system. The high-fat, low-fiber Western diet causes sex-hormone imbalances that result in proliferation of cells of this gland—a condition called benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). Eventual enlargement of the prostate gland compresses the urethra, interfering with urine flow. Once symptoms of obstruction develop—frequency, poor stream, and incomplete emptying—there are options for obtaining relief, including, diet and lifestyle changes, "natural" and prescription medications, and invasive surgeries. Prevention of prostate is best.
