The 9x Olympic gold medalist and the former “Fastest Man in the World”, Carl Lewis, talks with Dr. McDougall about how a plant-based diet has dramatically improved his health and performance. It was in 1990, after meeting Dr. McDougall in Minneapolis, that Lewis decided to go on the McDougall Diet. He was almost 30 and people thought he should be retiring, but all of his personal bests came since he switched to a plant-based diet. Eating this way makes him more alert, more energized and it keeps his weight down. Lewis discusses what foods and juice he drinks to optimize his performance, and how he maintains a plant-based diet when he’s on the road more than 50% of the year.

When asked what made him change his diet, Lewis says, “The biggest thing that changed my mind is that I knew there had to be way that you’re able to live and function and eat and enjoy food and keep your weight down.” For Carl Lewis, the McDougall Diet is the way.
