So glad the blizzard is over...all my time on the computer has been watching road conditions, etc. Miss the hours I used to spend on the McD site. I joined the group the first of the year...I think, which is why I decided to journal...no memory. I'm regreting not having kept a record of the month, with weight, b/p, diet, etc. I did go back and reread some emails to my sis and was able to reconstruct a partial time line. I measure my b/p twice a day and it's within normal limits. However, I'm still having some edema in my ankles. I'm 100% McD, had given up most meat for several years. My daughter has joined me in this and we finally gave up dairy, eggs, oil and salt. She had one episode where she took the granddaughter to an Italian resturant, thought she could have sauce and pasta...was miserable all night, so we decided to give up tomatoes. We experiemented with brown rice but didn't like it. We sticking with sweet potatoes and green veggies. This last week, we added back white potatoes. I've lost 14lbs and I think she's lost 18? We weigh in every morning on the Wii...haven't missed a day since Jan 1.

State of Emerency was finally lifted but my car is still in snow up to the trunk...was able to get to the store, was out of sweet potatoes. I usually pay 99 cents/lbs and clean out their bin. Today I asked for more and they brought me a 40lbs box for $25.60. I'm very pleased with the quality and hope it wasn't a fluke. Also bought 8 bags of assorted greens. Think I'm all set for a while...in case we get another storm.
I just baked 8 of the sweet potatoes and was not disappointed...very good (not all 8  ) and was wondering what to do with the greens. I nuked a package of chopped mustard greens and then mashed a sweet potato in it. It was tasty. I was having difficulty with this elemination diet...of course, limited choice is the whole purpose. But now I see that it is possible to mix things up a bit without my usual seasons. 8)

I have tried the elimination diet, after a week I felt wonderful. I would have been successful if the person who buys groceries understood that when you eat this diet you eat more than 1 thing of celery, a bit of rice and a couple of sweet potatoes for a whole week hahaha
I am sure you will have better luck!

2-27-2011 Month's not yet over and I've lost 18 lbs since the first of the year. My daughter has lost over 20lbs...it really has been easy, and we become so ungrateful that it isn't faster. I must continue to remind myself how much better I feel, no sinus problems, no joint aches, more energy, and exercising everyday....not much, but more than previously: 2 minutes on the rebounder and about 10 on the Wii(yoga)
I'm learning to keep the cooking and shopping simple. Also, bought several McDougall books on Amazon.
I emailed my brother regarding the McD plan, he's a diabetic and had a stroke, his wife had the stomach banding and the daughter has one of the auto immue diseases? fibromylagia? But they're not interested at this time.
Also told my 90 year old Dad, at 90, he and and mom are in pretty good shape. At first he seemed interested and I sent him info, but he prefers his eggs and cheese....said he had lost a pound and a half and had to celebrate.

Thanks to the persons who posted regarding the downsize of pictures for the avatars...very helpful. I'm still working on the weight graph thingy. Gypsy

That is truly excellent progress, Gypsy---wow. I fortell great success for you. :) I also like mustard greens, and love the combo of greens and yams (sweet potatoes).

You are onto a good thing here.

:D Wow, March 1 2011...February was a fast month. 4:40am and I have a pot of greens cooking...should start the brown rice but don't want to wake the family.
A couple of days ago we had a nice stew with the usual carrots, celery, onions and garlic...actually, it was leeks. I've been trying to elimate the cause of our gastric distress. After much research on the site and the doctor's newsletter, it's probably a case of the bad bugs outnumbering the good bugs. The night before last was a nightmare, up every couple of hours (that's why they call it the runs :o )
So yesterday, I attempted to make rice milk...more like mush and added some greens with a dash of ginger. Also needed a little soy sauce. And I'm glad to report the last 24 hours, the GI symptoms are much improved.
The lemon ginger tea was helpful.
Today, on my list: Beets, kale, chard, collards and ginger. Thought I might try to make ginger milk. Also, checked out GT kombucha, but no dealer in this area and the nearest kombu is probably 50 miles away from this cornfield.

LOL, I am German by birth but I have a bit of a Gordie accent (NE part of the UK) so I am told. But I was taught the Queens English at school which sounds way to posh lol.

 Thanks so much, Dechen :D

Yesterday: 3 Idaho's with catsup, one sweet potato and a green smoothie: brown rice, steamed carrots and boiled frozen chopped greens...about 700ml for 2 servings...nuked and served warm with a dash of soy sauce

Today on the stove: 2 lbs frozen chopped greens and in the steamer...4 lbs of summer squash.
In the oven: 3 lbs of red beets. "400 degrees, for 60 minutes, cover with parchment paper....when cooled, rub the skins off only what will be used...can store the rest 4-5 days" (not sure where I got this, my first attempt at roasted beets)edit: couldn't pierce the skin after 60 minutes, will try another 30

82 to go to reach my ideal weight and let us never forget...no sinus symptoms, no joint pain, no GI discomfort...with all thanks to the Creater and the dear Doctor McD, of course. :-D

ps I always forget the benefits to the kitchen of not cooking with oil: no oiling film on the stove and the dishes almost wash themselves..Cool

 That is one of the things I always appreciate when I wash up, the total lack of having to fight with an oil slick. I am grateful for small mercies
