Bonjour all! :-D

I am Raine, in real life Lori Hopkins Rodewald, who used to post over at VegSource. I was married for 6 years, to someone who really didn't get the McDougall thinking. He has moved out, though, and I am in a transition phase of life, again. I am changing my eating habits back toward veg*n eating and McDougalling, because I know this is healthiest.

I have diabetes type 2, live in Portland, Oregon. I work in public transit, but only drive a desk.

I was 202 in August, lost 10 lbs due to divorce-stress diet, and have gone to an Apple & Oatmeal diet, where I must eat at least one raw apple each day, and at least one cup of oatmeal each day. I suppose this will turn out to be MWL. I feel like Ebenezer Scrooge, coming home, making my gruel and going up to my bedroom to watch TV & internet for the evening with my dogs. Okay, it's much cozier than Scrooge had. The lights are on.

I've been doing this for 1 week and am down to 189.4. My blood sugars have been reading at 96, fasting, and 106 non-fasting. That's normal range.

Still on lots of meds, but things will change.

Good to be back. I'm feeling lots of love already.

:D

Hugs,

Raine

Hi, Raine,
Sounds like you are making the adjustment pretty well. I've reached the point where I have been divorced longer than I was married, and I was married for 16 years. Gotta tell you, I would never go back.

Congrats on your blood sugar readings!

How many dogs? What kinds? I've got a 55-pound shaggy mix named Fergus who fills up my whole heart.

In my head I am singing that old tv theme song from Welcome Back Cotter. May be too old for you, John Travolta was a kid on the show.
Love your Avatar. We had a sweet Burmese cat for 17 years.
I wish I had had this eating plan when I went through my divorce !! It will help you stay strong. And being able to log on and find helpful people , will be much help, I am sure.
I survived with just watching Mash every night. You'll be great. Just wish I could wave a magic wand and get you through this ecky stuff quicker.

Hi Raine,
Welcome back. Taking care of yourself with a healthy diet is a wonderful way to start the next phase of your life. I also really like your avatar. I’m doing Mary’s Mini, just eating rice, lettuce, & apples. I look forward to hearing more from you in the coming months. :)

My two dogs are Snickers, a 25 lb mixed breed dog, and Beanie, a 10 lb Rat Terrier.

And then I have 2 fostered Rat Terriers, Charlie and Jorge. If you need a dog, these are the available ones in Oregon....

Jorge has a family who will look at him this weekend. Charlie must go. Must go soon. I will probably not foster any more after this, or until my life is more stable.

Welcome back!

I have vivid memories of sitting at my computer in oh, say about 2002 and reading your many posts. You were such a voice of wisdom and experience - I greatly appreciated your sharing at the board.

And then you were gone, and I've missed you!

Sending you a big Welcome Home. :-D

I didn't know you on Vegsource, but it's good to have you here. We Portlanders have to stick together!
