Jim's wife called me and asked that I let folks here know about his current medical status. He went to the ER at Stanford Hospital on Wed. and had emergency surgery for a dissecting aorta on Thur.

This is a very serious condition, as is the surgery to replace a section of the aorta with a graft. As of this morning, Jim is still recovering in the ICU and is not yet well enough to receive visitors. I hope to visit as soon as he is well enough.

I don't know much more than this, except that his wife, Terri, said that the docs were concerned that they might have to perform a heart bypass depending on what happened in surgery, and he did not need the bypass.

I know that everybody's thoughts and prayers will be with Jim as he recovers, and as I am informed of his progress, I will post here. Jim has been a great friend and moderator to us all, and particularly to me. If anybody wishes to post their thoughts here, I will convey it to him when I see him.

Jim is a really tough guy, and I think that and his improved lifestyle has got him this far and will get him through this.

Hi Bob,

What a shock!

Please let Jim know that my wife and I are both praying for him and look forward to the day that we can sit next to him at a Pacifica get together again. Also, Bob, please let Terri know that if there is anything we can do to help with anything as Jim recovers, we are only a short distance down Highway 1, and will be happy to help in any way we can.

Thank you very much.

Mark

I had to look that up, dissecting aorta, and now I wish I hadn't -how horribly frightening! Thanks for letting us know, I'm so sorry he is dealing with this, and Terri, I can't even imagine!

I haven't actually interacted much with Jim, but I so appreciate his presence on this board, and my prayers will be with him and his family.
