Say, does anyone here use a pedometer and get in 10,000 steps per day?

I have one and have started using it once again. I havent been very successful in getting in even close to that amount.

How do you get all your steps in? Other than exercising nearly all day.At least thats how I see how Id have to get them in.

When my kids were home for the summer, I was averaging about 8000 steps per day without even trying. Now I'm back down to about 5 or 6000 a day. My battery died on Saturday. I guess I need to fix that. :D

I've started adding in walks two to three times per week. What's interesting/frustrating is to notice how my step count goes down, not up, on the days I exercise in a sustained way. I would imagine that as I get into better condition, my steps will increase without added fatigue. Anyway, I think that the number of steps in a day doesn't correlate exactly with fitness. I used to be able to walk a half hour a day without fatigue. Now 10 min. three days in a row does me in!

I clip on my pedometer every AM when I get dressed. Then I go for a walk. I alot anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours for walking on the days I don't lift weights. It takes me about an hour and 15 minutes of walking to get 10000 steps.

I have the same curiosity about doing a 45 minute circuit training DVD, which equals between 2500-5000 steps, depending on the DVD as opposed to an hour walk. I think both have their purpose and I find that as long as I do something every day (most of the time) I see improvement.

With the step issue I had to decide I would purposefully take a walk to reach my Step Goal for each day.

Does that help?

Debra

Hey Debra,

I dont always remember to put mine on when I get up in the AM. One day I got up to 7028 and then the other day only around 6000. So, that is an improvement for me.

I was sitting around too much and thought Id tack this thing on to get me moving more.

I remember years ago when I was really active and of course younger, I got 18,000 steps in one day. How is that for moving?

I keep mine right beside my watch, so it becomes automatic to reach for it. Sometimes I'll even clip it to my undies while I'm desiding which workout pants/shorts to put on.

Also, I like to record what I've walked at the end of the day. My top PR is 31,000 until that PR it was 21000 (one day in Boston). So, your 18,000 is great but we both know you can do better...it just takes setting the time aside and then doing it...

BTW, I set my latest PR last earlier this month...and I'm 62.

All that being said, it's almost 2:00 today and I only have 2000 steps on the pedometer...so I'd best go do something about that, huh. Not every day do I reach 10000...but it's a good goal. If I can...maybe it will help you believe you can too.

When can you fit in a walk today???

I am a fan of the Omron HJ-720IT. I just got my second one today! I lost the first somewhere. :(

It comes with software for your computer that allows you to log your steps daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly. you can set daily goals too.

I'm thinking about starting a journal to record this journey. I am 6 days into the beginning of the rest of my life being healthy....I strayed from McDougall for a couple of months but I'm back at it. Hope to post here often to keep myself going.

Anybody else have this pedometer?

That souunds like a very fun toy. What's the cost?

I log my step total each evening along with my workouts and a short comment on food...not a food log, just a "did great" or "got into some mischief"...and body fat if I've checked it lately. Suppose I could do that on the computer, but...

This AM I reset my pedometer back to 0 and then forgot to put it on before heading out the door. At least I am familiar with the route I took, so I know the step count, but I was still bummed.

I paid 31.99 on amazon with free shipping. Which is a steal! I love it!

I chose the 29 new link below the area that says it is in stock. Ships faster than amazon.

:)

It's the less expensive model that doesn't plug into the computer. I enter my numbers by hand into a spreadsheet. It works great! It's like having a watch, I just don't feel like I'm ready for the day unless I have it in my pocket.

I think any pedometer that is pretty accurate is great! doesn't have to hook up to a computer or do tricks or anything to do the job. :-P I think I just suffer from gadget nerd syndrome. ;)

I just got back from a get together with my friend. Our boys are two weeks apart so it is a double bonus that they play while we hang out. Yay! I just looked at my pedometer now and I have 10,264 steps for today!! I am sooo glad. But MAN, my feet are kinda yelling at me.

I wish I could clock this many steps everyday!

I have a treadmill that has steps you can put in that you want to do and it counts backwards and starts beebing when you are almost through. I do 6,000 to 8,000 on it in an hour,
I have used a meter when walking outside a month ago and I did even get near that amount of steps in an hour, so I am counting my steps on the treadmill from now on.

I use an Omron . It is the most accurate & will work even if you put it in your pocket. I love mine. I'm not up to 10,000 staps but I'll keep trying.
