It seems a good plan to go back on the regular McDougall plan... then you can see what you've learned and what you still need to learn... one step at a time, we progress... sometimes when we seem to be going backwards, we find later that we've learned another valuable lesson Good luck with Thanksgiving being your first day out...

Hey Boots,

Just breezing thru your Journal.

I really like what you are saying, doing things for your health first, 2ndly for weight loss. It seems they should go hand in hand, but they dont really always, do they?

Congrats on the new apartment. I can't imagine moving every year, maybe because when I was a child, we moved a lot. I was born in Seattle, Wash, when I was about 10, we moved to Menlo Park, CA. & then from house to house. One time we even moved across the street if you can believe that!!! Of course when you are a kid, it is exciting, now the thought of moving is overwhelming.

I am doing a mix of MM & MWL now. I am finding I like a little more variety as well, although I did lose fairly quickly doing MM. I really dislike comments like you are losing too fast. I think it doesn't matter what we were doing, there would be comments. I am thinking of setting a goal for myself, not sure if it should be x amount of lbs to lose, since you can't necessarily control how much weight your body lets go of, but maybe just totally compliant thru the holidays. Give myself something to concentrate on instead of all the goodies around me.

I will check back later. Keep up the good work & good luck with your move.

Boots, I rotate every three months to the MMs.
I have put together a book for myself of the recipes I use On MWL. THen I make my menu for the week from that.
On Mary's Mini's I do the same food for three meals for two days and then change.
Glad you are moving and hope you get the internet going once you are moved in.

Thoughts of the Day

Exercised 1 1/2 hours today on my elliptical. Felt good. I didn't exercise all week. Didn't have any excuses. Just didn't do it. I ate some high fat vegan food today. Thought I would be like "oh" this taste wonderful. But it didn't. It was what it was. My hubby & I are talking about investing in some cookbooks, maybe dr. mcdougall books. We are going to start doing some recipes. That will probably help us be more compliant. We will wait until we move though, don't want to mess up the place anymore than it is. For now we will keep it simple. He's eating beans, rice, sweet potatoes and regular potatoes. I'm fixing to start doing some juices tomorrow, making fresh squeezed juice and then making a soup out of it. I hope it's good. I never done anything like that before-making my own soup. If anyone has any advice let me know. I brought apples, oranges, zucchini, cucumbers and tomatoes all to juice and maybe make some kind of soup.

Trying to sell my Ellipitcal on craigslist. My new apartment has a 24 hour gym, so we no longer need our elliptical. I hope someone buys it :)

Went for 1 hour and 20 minute hike this morning. Feels good to exercise on the weekends, no excuse not too.

I'm back to MWL foods--a little early than expected but I just had made up my mind that Mary's mini was not for me. My favorite food missed was beans. My hubby made a pot and I have some potatoe fries in the oven right now. So yummy! I'm still figuring out how to make some soup out of tomatoes, zucchin, cucumbers, apples and oranges--lol. I'll come up with something.

Not much else going on. I think an afternoon nap is in store for me :)

Boots, how cool that the new apt has a gym. That'll make it so easy to work out.

Hope the new place is working out for you and that you are getting all nested in.

Probably won't have much chance to read/post over the next week or so, so here's wishing you an early Thanksgiving!

probably best to add some variety, if it makes you happy also probably what your body was wanting. A hike sounds fun! It's chilly out these days so I'll have to bundle up but get out there, need some real exercise soon. Anyway, good job :)

Wow, 90 minutes of exercise per day now? And a gym in your apartment complex? That does it, I'm succumbing to sksamboots envy now. :-P

I hope the new place is working out for you and that you will be getting some McD. cookbooks soon. They're invaluable for so many things, especially learning how to turn old favorites into plan-legal dishes. Definitely worth the money!

Trying to get more vegetables in my life. Decided to get creative and make some soup. I've never made soup before but I figure why not try.
I ended up with a very thick, yummy soup. I really thought it was going to be nasty (I'm no cook), but my taste buds were pleasantly pleased. Here is what I did
--1 bag of peas, blended
--1 bag of cabbage blended
--1 bag of bok choy, blended
--Throw all above in a pot and added 1 bag of frozen peas all still intact. In another pan, I boiled some vegetable broth, 1 bag of white onions and 1/2 green onion with 1 teaspon garlic and 2 tablespoons of curry. Added vegetable broth as needed. Then I took this and put it in the green soup mix. Then I added some nutritional yeast and salt/pepper to taste. Let it cook until frozen peas are done. It turned out so yummy!! I think I'm going back for seconds. :D

I've never bought nutritional yeast. Is it a powder? Does it come in a jar, or envelopes, or what? I am picturing it tasting like the yeast in traditional yeast rolls... is that the same thing? Please enlighten me as I could use more greens in my family's diet as well and I am impressed by your "throw-together" soup.

the nutritional yeast I get are little yellow flakes, they're good as a sort of cheesy substitute, to sprinkle on things. Doesn't taste like cheese to me but they do add a nice flavor. I like to add it to plain potatoes sometimes.

Good for you sksamboots, adding more veggies. :)

Thoughts of the Day

I'm loving my green soup. I had 4 bowls last night. The good news is with adding more vegetables to my diet, the scale is going down. I'm very satisfied with my new veggie intake. I just had to find a way to make them taste better and I did, so therefore I eat them. I encourage everyone to try making soup and adding lots of spices. Good way to get your veggies in.

I'm very busy. Tired. Exhausted. I'm so thankful for the 4 day weekend. I haven't moved yet people. We are scheduled to move into our new place this Friday! Yikes, we acutally moved the day up. We weren't scheduled to move in until next Tuesday but we are working with our landlord to get us out of our current place. I can't wait until it's Saturday because the moving will be done and over with. This will be a painless move. We don't have any furniture--our current place is all furnished. So I will have to buy all new or slightly used furniture for our new place. The heaviest thing we have to move our some filing cabinets and a mattress pad. We should be able to load everything up in our 2 cars and make one trip. Easy enough. I've been lurking and reading everyones journals, haven't felt much like posting. We also won't have internet service until Tuesday. So I'll be around :)

PS: I have no plans for Thanksgiving. Just going to eat more Green Soup! :D
