Unlike George Bailey in "It's A Wonderful Life", Tim Russert doesn't get a second chance.

Unlike Dr. McDougall's readers, Tim Russert got a different and life-ending message from his medical doctor.

If Tim had interviewed Dr. McDougall prior to his departure he may have made a personal decision different that the one that cost his life.

I believe every fifty eight year old who dies of coronary heart disease and every fifty-three year old who dies of colon cancer, would, if given a second chance like George Bailey was given, use the information shared "posthumously" by Dr. McDougall to correct the deadly dietary choices that ended their life so prematurely.

Sadly our economy is driven by consumer based activities including mass consumption of meat and dairy. As long as the meat and dairy lobby money is spread around Washington and shared by so many politicians, none are motivated to unblur the line between healthy and proper plant based nutrition and gluttonous consumption of disease causing meat and dairy products. It’s almost un-American to not eat meat.

Likewise, as long as the meat and dairy industries spread money to broadcasters, their customers, humans reduced to the status of “consumers” will continue receiving false messages touting the “benefits of meat and dairy”. I’m not one for “conspiracy theories” but it’s clear the healthy benefits of a plant based diet and the harmful effects of meat and dairy are both hidden from the public by powerful industries using influential lobbyist to maintain market share. The medical industry, the meat and dairy processors, the advertising industry, and the broadcasters all stand to lose their billions of dollars in annual income if they do not continue to broadcast false information about the food we eat.

Television viewers are repeatedly prompted on a daily basis to try an endless list of recipes using meat and dairy. A new meat and dairy recipe is encouraged daily on many TV talk shows. The viewing audience even claps when the cook or host tastes the dist and declares it “the best”. Whole shows are aired showing how to barbecue meat. There’s and endless stream of encouragement for us to eat plenty of meat and dairy products but never a mention of the hormones they contain or the health consequences from eating flesh or drinking the milk from another species. Is it possible “Lactose Intolerance” is natures’ way of keeping species from drinking the wrong milk? What other species seeks the milk outside its species? What species has adults drinking any milk?

Even those dishes promoted as “vegetarian” on television most often end up doused with fatty oils and garnished with meat and dairy. In the end it’s just another meat dish disguised as “vegetation”. One show gives a food choice, “This or That” and chooses the dish with the least calories. Both choices are meat and dairy. Both choices are deadly. Tim Russert never had a chance. He was consumed by his own industry.

well said and it's true that the meat, dairy and advertising industries among others are keeping things hushed up, and the american public is being lied to...as I watch more of Food Network! I don't eat the stuff, just like to watch it and shake my head

I like watching BBC of America, they sure tell it differently.

If it bothers you why do you read about it? People shouldn't be chastised for discussing a newsletter. Most on here come to this board including myself to avoid what happened to him.

Tim Russert's death was so shocking - and it's perhaps even more surprising that others AREN'T discussing the dietary causes of his demise.

Oh wait.... then they'd have to think about their own habits, right?
