My husband got his after losing his first 20 pounds on this WOE after his CABG surgery.
along with Naproxen for pain,
Naproxin is the med in Aleve. I was given that a number of times for my arthritis and now keep a bottle of generic naproxin in the med chest at all times.
and a low purine diet. She LOVES her oatmeal and cauliflower and now she has restrictions. I guess I would have though a primarily plant based vegan diet would help - but now we have even more restrictions…..
His father is of
the opposite view, that eating a plant based diet, with plant based protein sources, does not affect gout in anyway. When my husband was first diagnosed we did the whole gout diet thing and avoided beans and cruciferous veggies, but after a while on colchicine and then allopurinol both the podiatrist and his primary care said it was now okay to go ahead and eat them all, they're not going to raise the uric acid levels like meat based sources do. It's been a few months now and his uric acid level is staying in the good range and not one gout twinge since going back on daily beans and all the veggies, including broccoli and spinach.
What will it take to cure the gout
More meds. She should be on colchicine to stop the gout pain and allopurinol to bring her uric acid levels down to below 6. I don't know anyone with gout who hasn't taken those 2 meds. The doc *did* order that blood test, right?
And is the Naproxen even necessary if she's not in pain
.
It's just an anti-inflammatory, an NSAID, same family as aspirin. How did the doc tell her to take it, steady or as needed? My husband took it a few days before he got the first colchicine prescription by the podiatrist. Within 2 days on colchicine the pain was gone. It took a while to get the right dosage schedule of cochicine and allopurinol and will eventually be weaned off the colchicine but the allopurinol is here to stay. Maybe Dr. Craig wants to see if the naprosyn does the trick before putting her on those 2 meds?
