P90X+ is now out. My order is in. Seeing the samples online I wonder what I'm thinking

I'm going to finish this go round of P90X first. Then there will be a few weeks where I can do some phase 2 weeks, so I'll end up with the equivalent of 3 rounds of P90X. A vacation to visit my daughter in England and then (April Fool's Day  ) I'm going to go for it.

Anyone else crazy enough to try? Groundhogg?

A more advanced set of exercise videos designed for those who have gone through P90X, itself designed for those who have gone through Power 90 or are already fit (they have a set of tests to see if you are ready).

We talked about P90X in this thread:

I'm excited to say that I finally got a set of P90x. I went through ebay because of all the negative reviews I'd read of Beachbody's customer service. The funny thing is that it was a drop ship straight from milliondollarbody, which I think is Beachbody. And that came to me in just a few days.

Anyhoo, I'm unhappy to say that I have reinjured my low back (who knew artificial Christmas trees could be so heavy  ) I'm a little concerned about some of the tapes - such as plyometrics. I probably won't be attempting these tapes for a month or two at best. So, I'm nowhere near ready for p90x+.

But I will be anxiously awaiting your report of the new series. Please give us the scoop on them once you get started with them. Really looking forward to it. Thanks.

Hope you get feeling better!

They do have a test to see if you are ready for the program.

Plyometrics I thought would bother me with the impact but it really doesn't. It does work my legs and definitely my heart and lungs, though. I took all sorts of breaks in the beginning. It is only now I can do it without taking any sort of extra time. I had quite a while when I could get through the exercises but my heart rate stayed too elevated to do the final stretches, and I had to walk about for several minutes.

They say you can do Cardio X if Plyometrics is too much.

Yeah, customer service is a trip. I think these folks must follow their proposed diet, a suggested 30% to 50% range for protein and the 20% figure for fat. (Which I find appalling.) So their brains, which run best on carbs, are starving

The latest is my attempt to get the correct size screws for the pushup stands. The person on the phone, after putting me on hold so she could talk to a supervisor, said all she could do is reship the entire thing. I thought that was silly so I wrote an email explaining the problem. Well, I ended up with a second set of stands (with the same, wrong screws) AND another package with a set of screws (also that wrong size) that go with the pullup bar. And that packing list says the screws are for a different item ... One can only laugh.

I guess I ordered P90X+ early so I can be sure to have it in time.

I may sub in some of those routines now. I'll have to look at them first.

I did Power 90 two years ago and a year ago, I did 6 weeks of P90X. I'm doing Power 90 again starting tomorrow. My goal is to do all of the X, but not yet. And from what I've seen of X+, it's even harder, so I'm skipping those completely.

I'm also doing P90--I've always quit after a couple of weeks, but we're going to Hawaii in March and so now I've got some real motivation to stick with it! I go to the gym for cardio, but I really like the P90 sculpting. This is the only exercise dvd I like so far--I really appreciate how straight forward it is.

I, too, wish they'd improve their diet recommendations, but at least a lot of people on the boards mention plant-based and McDougall. But those boards are confusing to me--I prefer this one much better!

Is it the Power 90 board where people mention plant-based diets and McDougall sometimes? Apparently the P90X diet is different from the one recommended for their other programs. The P90X diet has lots of protein and isn't designed for a calorie deficit.

I haven't seen it discussion of other diets at all on the P90X board. Of course, I haven't read through everything because that would mean I was on the internet all day, except for when I was doing the exercise.

Now I'm just subscribed to one thread for a group of people who started a second round on December 3 (although there are a few newbies as well). Everyone but me seems to be going with the recommended diet (and suffering, not getting the results they want, etc.) I mentioned being vegan and having good results, but not a soul replied to that. I couldn't even reach the phase 3, lowest protein, level if I ate nothing but beans! (For those reading this who aren't familiar with the program, there are three phases in P90X, four weeks at 50% protein, four weeks at 40% protein, and five weeks at 30%; fat is to be at 20% I see no scientific references in the nutrition book; folks are supposed to take it on faith, apparently.)

Something tells me they aren't going to change their diet recommendations, not with selling the "recovery drink," the bars, the supplements, etc. These things are probably big money makers for them because they are continuing revenue sources.

I think you are right about that. A year ago or so I tried to buy P90x through Collage video. I prefer to buy videos from them if I can because they are a good legitimate company with excellent customer service. When I searched for Beachbody, here is what I got:

We have chosen not to carry the Power 90 product. While the actual workouts are fine, The Power 90 System is primarily focused on their "fat-burning" dietary supplements. And Collage is not a big believer in the benefits of supplements.

My memory served me correctly (amazing!), and the comments on the P90 message boards are mostly positive towards McDougalling.
Here's what came up with a search:
http://forums.milliondollarbody.com/eve ... =mcdougall

Remember, these are users of the workouts, not beachbody employees. I think it hurts their credibility when they push supplements, which is unfortunate because I really like the workouts.

Oh, I didn't doubt your memory! What is the diet recommended for Power 90? Is it consistent or at least more consistent with McDougall? I'm not thinking of changing; I'm just curious.

I bought my Power 90 tape from ebay so I didn't get all the other info with it. But when I was looking at the message board that momof4 posted, I noticed people were talking about something called Michi's Ladder.

Out of curiousity, I googled it. It's a hierarchy of foods in 4 or 5 tiers with tier one being best and most healthy. (It reminded me of Dr. McDougall's hierarchy in The McDougall Plan.) Tier 1 consisted of 65 foods only 6 of which were animal based. Surprisingly, it included seitan and tempeh.

So, yes, it does seem that the Power 90 diet advice is much closer - or at least less antagonistic - to a plant based diet than the p90x is.

Interesting. I wonder why the difference in diet recommendation?

I think I recently saw a similar ladder, but I can't for the life of me remember where. Oh well, I try to stick with the good McDougall stuff. No seitan or tempeh, though -- I can't eat either gluten or soy. So the high protein thing wasn't going to happen for me in any event.
