Today is the first day of the rest of my life and I'm going to strive to make it a good one!

Thanks to TeriTX (my partner-in-crime and also my sister :D ) I am learning how to incorporate Dr. McDougall's style of food preparation as my own.

I am a newbie at this and anticipate struggles and backslides, but I am taking that first step and that's the important thing.

Today's weight: 156.5 Exercise: 1 mile walk (outside) and 6 miles on the exercise bike.

Tomorrow's goal: Trying one new recipe.

Hey, Sissy...Thanks for the support. It's nice to have a 'dieting' buddy to make the journey easier. Only thing, this isn't a diet but a new way of life!

Thank you! I was out shopping today and realize this will be a challenge for me, but I'm going to do my best!

Correction on my excerise...I logged 12 miles on my bike and also did Miss Craig's Day 1 facial exercises and 25 tricep moves that I learned from Leslie Sansome!

I'm really revved up!

Instead of a caving in for a chocolate Dove after dinner, I chewed a piece of cinnamon gum! Yea, me!!

Tomorrow I'll take my measurements so I can check my progress.

Tonight for dinner I'll be trying Cajun Gumbo from the McDougall cookbook. I'm leaving out the celery because no one here likes it cooked.

Sounds yummy and fast which is good because tonight is the first night of my writing class.

I made some good choices today so I'm giving myself a pat on the back!

Hi Judy!

What's on your McDougall menu today? Are you walking with Leslie?

Hi, Teri!

Yes, I'm walking with Leslie, but my McDougalling is suffering. I did print some recipes from the archives which made me feel the original motivation, but once I step foot in the kitchen my old bad habits return. This is frustrating, but I'm not giving up!

How are things with you?

Hi Judy,

I made a post to you somewhere else here. Just wondering how you liked your writing class and what kind of writing you do.

Hope you have a great week ahead.

Hi, Hazel!

Sorry about the confusion with all my different posts. I got confused about how to do this until my sister (TeriTX) walked me through it. Thank goodness for big sisters! I was joking with her that "Yes, I'm from California, but no, I'm not blonde!"

The Cajun Gumbo was really good. If you chose to make it, don't cook it for as long as the recipe suggests. 25 minutes was over-doing it, I thought. Took forever to cool to the point where you could eat it. My 20 year-old son said he'd eat it again, but he wanted meat; sausage would do. (He's not following McDougall). I said I'd do that for him, but would add it AFTER I dished up.

After a 4 year layoff, I'm back to 'thinking' about writing historical romance again. I've got lots of plots and ideas worked out, now all I have to do is get them down on paper. What do you like to write about?

Take care,

Judy

Today was K's 20th birthday and it was not a McDougall friendly day!

Breakfast: 2 slices of rye toast w/spread and 1/2 an avocado. (What was I thinking??!!) Coffee w/creamer.
Lunch: Took DS to lunch at his favorite sushi restaurant. We split a bowl of steamed rice and 3 different rolls. Not the "good" kind, mind you, but yummy ones with "stuff" on the top. Diet coke to drink.
Dinner: 3 slices (2 regular, 1 sliver) of onion & olive pizza from our favorite spot, helping of green salad with Italian dressing. Iced tea, 2 T. mixed nuts, 1/2 orange, 1/3 of a "Happy Birthday" Snickers Bar.

UGH!

Did manage to walk to Leslie Sansone twice--both times 1 mile and I rode my bike for 12 miles.

Met up with 2 friends from Weight Watchers. They talked about emotional eating. I think I'm going to "talk" to my food from now on...see why I'm choosing to eat it. Maybe I'll talk myself out of next time?
