Hi,

I'm new here :)

Have been fighting Chronic Lyme for 18 months now - went undiagnosed for over half my life. Has been quite a journey.

Anyway. I was recently diagnosed with FL1953 - a biofilm that prevents Chronic Lyme and co-infections from being successfully treated to remission. Part of the main treatment for this is a very low fat diet. It's recommended to use McDougall's diet.

I have a few questions...

1. I have Celiac - so no gluten. I do see a gluten free forum :) So happy that my first concern is taken care of. I can easily do this gluten free.

2. I follow a Candida diet. Which restricts any and all sugar. This means fruit. I eat very little fruit and only things like berries, cherries, green apples - the low sugar fruits. This also, however means avoiding starchy vegetables. So not sure how that is going to work. Has anyone who was on a Candida diet successfully transitioned to this diet without any problems? Maybe I should not worry about the Candida diet while doing this switch?

3. I have other food allergies. So was wondering if this is something I can successfully do and still get everything I need nutritionally. I have severe allergies to SOY and PEA (also any kind of dairy and red meat - but that doesn't apply here :) ). Minor allergies (I won't die ;) ) to Lentils, a few beans (pinto, kidney, lima), oats, and corn.

Since the McDougall diet is vegan (basically) - is this going to work?

I was vegan for years (not low fat) and avoided soy and pea. the other allergies were discovered later. But I try to stay away from them as much as possible.

Are there others here who are successfully following this diet with multiple food allergies?

Thanks :)

No worries. :) Just eat the McDougall-legal foods that you CAN eat!

I followed this way of eating minus gluten, soy, and corn for a long time. Now I know that potatoes and tomatoes don't work for me (arthritic symptoms). I eat very few (if any) nuts, seeds, beans. Right now I am eating an even more limited diet as I recover from an arthritic flair.

Good luck!

I'll post a list of my "safe" foods (that I eat every day), but please remember that this is an individual thing, and what works for me won't necessarily work for someone else! Also, I'm trying to expand my diet to include other foods too!

B: long grain brown rice
raisins
blueberries

L & D: collard greens & onion (water sauteed) over l.g. brown rice
or carrots and broccoli (boiled) over l.g. brown rice

Snacks: apples, dates, raisins, blueberries

This is my current food allergy diet:

Breakfast:
1/2 cup (before cooking) non-glutenous grain (certified gluten-free oats, ground brown rice, yellow corn grits, quinoa flakes, etc.)
1 cup blueberries
cinnamon

Lunch:
Large 7 cup pyrex microwave dish filled with 'green and yellow veggies':
1/2 bag of collard greens or spinach
1/2 bag of 'California'-style veggies (broccoli, carrots, cauliflower)
2 cups sliced 'french-style' green beans
handful of brussel sprouts

1 large sweet potato microwaved with large apple or a red pear

Dinner:
1-1.5 cups of brown rice or quinoa, or buckwheat soba noodles or baked spaghetti squash
Stir fry made up of: 1/4 head red cabbage or bunch of baby bok choi, onion, garlic, head of broccoli, 2 large sliced carrots, sliced whole zucchini and sliced whole yellow squash

1/2 acorn, butternut or buttercup squash
microwaved with 1 cup frozen peaches or 1/2 cup canned pineapple.

Snack:
microwaved ear of corn

My weight has been stable now for a couple of months, so I'm getting enough calories even without nightshades, beans and legumes or nuts and seeds.

Kate

Hi I did have candida here is my trick "no fruit" or sweet potatoes "at first" I don't tollerate any grains either, so I eat; beans, white potatoes, winter squash and no fermented foods or nuts seeds or avocado I drink a cup of black tea with stevia too and eat 6-8 smaller meals I eat a 90% starch maybe 10% non starchy veggies it works no more candida! oh and never any oil!!! a SMALL amount of tofu works fine for me too!
