Is quinoa an allowable starch on the McDougall program? It is very versatile and easy to prepare, but I haven't seen it mentioned. The box I have states that quinoa is technically a seed (not a grain), but it seems high enough in carbohydates.

Not Jeff, but I can tell you with utter assurance that YES, quinoa is absolutely OK for both the regular plan and MWL. :) Enjoy!

Yes.

While technically it is a seed, it is counted as a starch due to its nutritional composition.

I just got the Burgers and Fries DVD Monday, and I was wondering why you didn't use quinoa in any of the recipes. It seems like a texture that would work well in the burgers. If I ever get off my --- and cook up a few batches, I'm thinking about trying it in place of the rice.

Quinoa is an excellent option and should work fine.

Sunday I ate at Blossom's Vegan restaurant in NYC. I had a butternut-quinoa burger with toppings and semolina bread. Oh, yes, and fries. The burger was delicious and I'll be trying out Jeff's with the quinoa soon. Will let y'all know how it turned out.

I often replace the brown rice in the burger recipe with an equal amount of cooked quinoa. Works great!
