From my tests I was found to be B12 deficient and to have low iron. I've had both issues in the past even in my meat eating years so it's clearly something I have issues with. I'm going to take vitamins, but are there any specific suggestions for what kind to use. Does anyone know how long it takes before it's no longer an issue? At least I can understand why I've been so stinking tired.

When I've needed iron, I've found one dose tends to pick me up pretty much the same day.

I use Vitron-C. It's a non-constipating form and it has vitamin C (iron needs an acidic environment for best absorption and the vit C is good for that).

Not sure about how long the B-12 takes to work. From what I've read on here, Dr McDougall recommends methylcobalamin.

For the B-12 any subligual methylcobalamin will work. Excess will just get pee'd out so if it were me, and I was deficient, I would take 500 mcg or even 1000 mcg per day for awhile then test again.

For iron, my favorite, having worked in a pharmacy and having quite a few pregnant women come in needing to get iron level up before delivery... Floradix

http://www.florahealth.com/product_categories_usa.cfm?category_id=2&prod_id=946

It comes in liquid or pill. It is basically water extracts of iron rich plants and though low dose seems to work very well. Take 2 or even 3 times a day. And it works MUCH faster if you take a chlorophyll extract along with. This one is my favorite for that

Also come in liquid or pills.

I have no stake in either company but have seen consistent and very fast results with that combination.

Did your doctor recommend anything for you? How bad is your low iron? I went through a spell of low iron and took ferrous gluconate to bring it up. I was taking it 3x a day (I think it was 300mg). It really helped and did not upset my stomach at all. I had been taking floradix twice a day but it wasn't enough for me. I guess it depends on how bad the situation is. Mine was pretty bad.
