This is my new favourite recipe. It's by far the best loaf I've tried.

I left out the tahini to cut back on the fat, and I also used pomi pureed tomato instead of katsup. I don't even bother with the topping as I usually eat it with a little side of katsup. I also add 1 small chopped onion, 1 grated carrot and 1 diced celery.
It comes out moist and chewy and is a really good dense filling food.

I saw the recipe on FatFreeVegan and plan to try it in the near future. I'm glad you mentioned your adaptions.

Based on how good that recipe looked, I borrowed Dreena Burton's book, Let Them Eat Vegan!: 200 Deliciously Satisfying Plant-Powered Recipes for the Whole Family from my library to see if I'd be interested in buying it. While I thought she had very interesting ideas, alas, almost every recipe included nuts, fats and just too many ingredients to bother trying to McDougallize.

We love it, too. I also leave out the tahini and add some diced veggies. In addition, I substitute balsamic for the tamari and Worcestershire and I use half steel cut oats, half rice for the bulgur. I don't make the topping either.

This loaf is incredibly delicious! It has a great texture and is good warm or cold. I made sandwiches with the leftovers and ate it cold- yummy! I left out the tahini, too and didn't miss it. I did put some ketchup in it. Otherwise, I followed the recipe (how unusual! LOL).

We discovered yesterday that it's great cold too! Fantastic as a sandwich "shmeat".

Thanks greentea for the recipe! It will be what is for dinner tonight if all goes well today. I bought some bulgur to try the other day, as we have never had it, and was looking for an interesting recipe and here it is.

Thanks too Gramma Jackie for the website. I played around with it for a bit and it was fun. Might even help with some interesting burger ideas!

I totally forgot about the loaf studio. I haven't played with that in ages! Have you come up with any good combos?

I made it too and it was a huge hit! I also left out the tahini. My ony regret was I didnt double the recipe like I intended to. I think I was most shocked that ALL my kids liked it. Its rare I make something that everyone likes.

In case anyone making this has a pressure cooker, I use that for the lentils, steel cut oats, and rice and it makes it so much quicker. As mentioned before, I substitute rice and oats for the bulgur. I assume the PC would work with the bulgur.

I throw the lentils, rice, and oats in. Add the bay leaf and cover with water. Bring to pressure and let it simmer for 20 minutes. By the time I mix up the other ingredients and clean up, the stuff in the pressure cooker is about done.
