We are all waiting anxiously for the study results. Should be soon. They are following a McDougall diet, which is a bit more stringent than Dr. Swank's.

I'm really anxious to see his study results. I work with a doctor who cured(?) her own MS through diet but it's not McDougall. Of course, it's hard to argue with someone who went from a wheel chair to riding her bike to work everyday. She's a local legend now. I really hope the McDougall results are just as good. I don't have MS so it's hard for me to suggest McDougall around here when everyone is buying Terry's book and listening to her lectures and seeing her tear through the hall everyday. She does eat a lot of vegetables but she also includes meat and has the vegetables categorized by something I can't remember. Anyhoo, I would love to know Dr. McDougall's thoughts on Dr. Wahls' research, if he's familiar with it.

Oh, here's her basic outline for diet:
Here are three simple food rules to follow to ensure you will have enough building blocks on hand for optimal function of your brain and reduced risk of excessive inflammation.

1. Eat 9 cups of vegetables and fruit (3 green, 3 sulfur, 3 color) to ensure you have enough B vitamins, minerals (sulfur, iodine, magnesium), antioxidants, and essential fats through food (greens, seafood, grass fed meat, game, wild fish, flax, walnuts)
2. Reduce food allergy risk (go gluten-free and dairy-free)
3. Eat organic, locally grown foods and grow more of your own

I know that's a bit off topic but I've been thinking about this ever since I heard about Dr. McDougall's research. Waiting anxiously in Iowa!!

I had read about Dr. Terry Wahl's diet and tried to do that before finding Dr. McDougall's, "The Starch Solution." Nothing against Dr. Wahl. If that diet plan worked for her, that is wonderful. I too have MS and got excited about her diet and the miraculous improvement of her MS. I just could not eat that amount of greens and did not want to eat meat, especially liver.

I've been trying to take what is good from a few different vegan diets, but mainly eating according to Dr. McDougall's plan. It is easier to follow. I enjoy the food as well. Since I only started this plan a little over 3 weeks ago, it is a bit too early to say that my MS is better. I can say that the swelling and pain in my hands from Rheumatoid Arthritis is greatly improved. I am anxiously awaiting the results of Dr.McDougall's MS diet study.

Both plans are significantly better than the SAD so it's no surprise someone would progress on this diet. It's got a lot going for it and I am sure much like our program the benefits would be noticeable. We obviously don't see it as quite as healthy but it certainly is a step in the right direction. Better health is the goal and it's fun to see progress, especially if it's yourself!

Thank you for your responses.
Budrose1111 best of luck to you, what is for sure is that a good diet will benefit anyone, and posibly/hopefully cure them too. Also have you guys heard about the protocols that treat MS with megadoses of vitamins?

Thanks for the well wishes clarafdez1. The link you posted didn't work.
Here's the link I found:

Interesting info about megavitamins and MS.

It makes me wonder if the nutrients we "naturally" get from a plant-based diet are the answer to good health, as opposed to dietary supplementation. Seems like our culture thinks that we should just take a pill and make everything better. With an active disease, we may need to supplement in the beginning to reset our bodies to function properly, but I suspect that after this occurs, we would not need supplementation, but only nutrient dense, plant-based foods.

This is just my unprofessional understanding of all of the info about diet and vitamins in regards to being healthy, as well as those with ongoing disease, to restore and maintain their health. I am new to this way of eating and I know I have a lot to learn. When you have a degenerative disease like MS, you feel a tremendous urgency to find something to make things better.

I mostly agree with you on the supplements, but I also recognice the important of certain superfoods to complement our diets. We don't do a lot of vit supplements but rather we do food (not extracts) suplements like garlic, algae and a few others. I believe and hope that the future of medicine relies on using megadoses of vitamins to heal instead of drugs totatly unatural to our body.

Clarafdez1 - I want to thank you for posting the link to this video. WOW. I was amazed and speechless. I had heard bits and pieces about intravenous vitamin C in the past, but didn't know that much about it.

Ironically, I worked in the medical field for over 20 years as a medical secretary in a hospital setting (E.R. & I.C.U.) and then as a front office supervisor for a group of doctors. I saw first hand how much influence the drug companies had over the medical community. Now I am fighting a debilitating disease.

It is disheartening to know that natural cures were out there, but were relatively unknown by the average person. Unfortunately, the influential pharmaceutical companies are just interested in finding more and more medications to "manage" our illnesses. The drugs to treat MS are called "disease modifying drugs." I tried all the so-called, "ABCR" drugs. They made me sicker, were expensive, and my disability progressed anyway.

I thank God that I found Dr. McDougall's book. I am determined to take charge of my health by changing the food that I eat.
