Recently, the Seventh Day Adventist church had a public showing of Forks Over Knives. I had wanted to see it, so my hubby and I both went. What a movie!!! Wow!! Tons of information and presented very well. And the testimonies in the movie were quite impressive. Since my hubby and I had JUST begun to get "slightly" off track it was just what we both needed to see.

I also enjoyed the bit about Rip and the Engine 2 Firehouse. Anyway we purchased both video's and are now sharing them with other folks. I also have purchased a copy of the Enging 2 Cookbook. I can't say enough about both movies.

And by the way I recently received an e-mail from a good friend. It was an update on cancer from John Hopkins. And guess what the update said? It said that cancer cells feed on the high acidic diet we Americans eat!! Surprise? Not at all. Chemo and radiation were said to involve poisoning rapidly growing cancer cells. And radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs. What was their suggestion? Starving cancer cells by eating a diet made up of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts, and a little fruits!!! In other words we should be eating an alkyline diet. No surprise here.

Anyway great movie, Forks Over Knives.

Yes agree--Forks Over Knives was a fabulous movie!

I've recently been reading about acid/alkaline balance. The higher the ph the more alkaline. The body maintains a delicate ph balance. For good health our bodies need to be slightly alkaline - a ph between 7.3 & 7.4. By eating a more alkaline diet [ leafy greens, veggies, sprouts,] as opposed to an acidic diet [ high in animal products, processed foods, sugar ] we flood our bodies with oxygen, vitamins, enzymes, minerals and chlorophyl.

Yep, agreed. That documentary was what got me started down my road to health. After 6 months I have no complaints. Things continue to get better it has been a rather amazing transformation.

What initially started me down this road to a whole foods plant based diet was the book The China Study. But the movie Forks Over Knives really gave me a history lesson about Colin Campbell and Dr. Essie. (I read somewhere that some folks refer to him as Dr. Essie.)
Anyway I had no idea these 2 men were conducting research at about the same time. Coincidence? Hardly.

What I also liked about this movie is how they refer to "vegan" as instead "a whole foods plant based diet." And as I have learned over the years, not all vegans are healthy. When I watched Engine 2 with Rip, he found Earth Balance vegan spread in one refrigerator. From my understanding that produce is 100% fat!

Anyway, great movie. And I've just ordered a copy for a married couple who are friends of ours. They used to eat this way but stopped a few years ago. The hubby had a quadruple by-pass at 40 years of age, and definately should continue this way of eating. (He turned 41 years of age in the hospital after his surgery.) What a way to celebrate a birthday. And get this---their 13 year old daughter recently had her blood work done----AND SHE HAS HIGH CHOLESTEROL!! Imagine having this problem at 13. Whoa!!

I am hoping this movie will begin to get them back on track. Anyway great movie.

I don't waste my breath trying to "sell" people on this WOL any more, Forks Over Knives does all the work for me! I just tell them to pay attention to all the graphic illustrations! I put off watching it for so long because I was afraid it would miss the mark, but on the contrary its flawless!

I, too, read The China Study, then watched FOK. The combination did it for me and I'll never go back to the way I was eating. Before this, I thought I was a very "healthy" eater!

Great movie. I got to see it in San Diego at an event hosted by Rip with Whole Foods. I took my wife, my 3 kids, my FIL & BIL. Watching the movie in a theater, meeting Rip then listening to a panel of health care professionals talk about health and diet afterward was an awesome experience.

I ordered the DVD a few weeks ago, after wanting to see it for awhile, and it finally arrived yesterday. I'm really looking forward to watching it and sharing it with my husband. I'm not expecting to convert him (not immediately anyway!) but I would like him to understand why I've chosen to eat this way.

Great movie. They also have an excellent website -- http://www.forksoverknives.com/

The inexpensive companion book has been a long-time New York Times bestseller. I liked it a lot -- http://www.amazon.com/Forks-Over-Knives-Plant-Based-Health/dp/1615190457

This movie has been so great that I've probably watched it a dozen or more times the past few weeks. I can't thank the good folks who did this enough. It certainly got me and my hubby back on track. And I also ordered, received, and watched Engine 2 DVD. Another great movie. I only had one problem. What happened to the 2 families who were featured here? Did they achieve their goals and stick with it? Does anyone know?
And by the way I also agree with "healthyvegan" here. This movie is so good that if folks see it and are not convinved, don't waste time trying to convinve them. The information, graphs, interviews, etc. etc are plenty. And in an hour and a half movie, if they don't see the light--move on.

Something else I also appreciated in this movie is the reference to "whole foods, plant based diet." I am getting to the point where "vegan" says little or nothing to me. Didn't Dr. McDougall say there are "fat" vegans? Those vegans who rely on those fake foods can be fat it they're not careful. Also those fake foods are loaded with chemicals, etc. etc. So I'm going to begin telling folks we are noweating a "whole foods plant based diet." It sound much more friendlier and more represents what we're doing anyway. And as far as those fake vegan foods--they taste good initially, but when you read the ingredients you see things listed you wouldn't ever want to consume.

Great move---as I stated earlier!!
