I am happy to say that my library system bought 14 copies of The Starch Solution. :-D

I am extremely impressed. This shows a major commitment. Do you know why they have it?

Ha! They have it because they are one of the top library systems in the country! That is one thing we both sorely miss about living there.

Greetings!

I requested that our local library purchase the book, noting my strong belief that this diet saved my life.

Today, I was delighted to find that the book has arrived!

There is so much bad information out there. I hope everyone will take the time to request this book at your local library. Everyone deserves a chance to hear the truth.

I also have a personal copy on the way from Amazon, which I intend to lend freely.

Viva Starch! :D

My guess is that it is because we have a large vegetarian/vegan population here in the Columbus, OH area and also because The Wellness Forum which has a health philosphy very much like Dr. McDougall's is located here.

Very true. :-D

I go to the Gahanna branch every week without fail, sometimes more than once a week and check out at least 5-10 books a week. The reserve system is awsome. My daughter used to work for the library as a computer technician.

The county library system here has 10 copies of Starch Solution, all of them checked out already. But I went to my local Walmart last night, and they didn't carry it at all. They had an Atkins book, though-- sheesh. Won't that guy's work ever die out? I thought it was debunked long ago.

Author Gary Taubes revived the low carb diet almost singlehandedly 10 years ago, even before Atkins died and continues to publish books on the glories of meat and fat. Also, the Paleo diet people keep publishing books that give low carbing a bump from time to time. The recipes are gosh-awful. Loren Cordain who wrote The Paleo Diet and Mark Sisson who wrote The Primal Blueprint have recipes using animal parts you wouldn't give a dog.

Ew. I'd never even heard of those particular diets. Sounds awful.

You have great libraries! I'll be donating a copy to mine. They (and their patrons) seem to be stuck on the paleo fad for now. I have no trouble checking out vegan cookbooks, people don't seem to be interested in them. :(

The Multnomah County Library system (Portland OR) has 5 copies of the book on order and there are 32 holds on it already. I was in the hold queue too, but my sister surprised me with a copy and we are reading and discussing it together. Great book!

I just got the book from my library. Even before cracking the book open, I have two observations. First it was right next to a book, The Good Fat Cookbook by Frances Monson McCullough. Interesting shelfmates--haha! Secondly I then noticed it was in the the Dewey classification for "Food & Drink" (641) as opposed to "Promotion of Health" (613) where all of the "diet" books are.

I wonder when it'll come out in paperback, if ever.
