Using a bike for alternate transportation of self and stuff is very satisfying. You'll love it!

This is the bike I'll be getting out of storage, shown before we put the electric assist on it. The HUGE panniers can carry an awesome amount of stuff. Hubby's carried full 5 gallon water bottles in his - one on each side. He's picked up an interior door from the hardware store by bike.

He's hauled 150 lbs of oranges I picked from a friend's tree (below). I had oranges shoved in the smaller panniers of my hybrid bike on that trip.

That is way cool I love your bikes.

This is my bike. With the one my hubby was using at the time. he buys and sales bikes all the time and is constantly selling his bike. Laugh. His dad bought a bike for himself and hubby has been riding it when we go on bike rides lately. Picture is from back in August I'm not that big anymore. laugh.

Looks like a fun bike. Hubby got a cruiser a while back when he realized the posture on a road bike was aggravating his injured shoulder. He loves the cruiser and I like it because it slows him down so I can keep up. LOL

My yellow bike? Hubby built it for me from a pile o' tubes. Then we added the Xtracycle kit on the back (frame, snapdeck, and panniers) to make it an SUB. That would be Sport Utility Bike.

That's way cool. Looks like a great bike. I love my cruiser but like you said it slowed him down. laugh. Slows me down now that I'm faster. I need to find something that doesn't put my hands to sleep but still lets me go faster.

Two things can help with your hands. One is a good pair of biking gloves. These have padding on the palm that will help protect the nerves from going to sleep as fast.

Second is using your core strength to lift your upper body up, just slightly, so you are not resting so much weight on your hands. It's a very subtle movement. Think of lifting your whole torso up to your shoulders up slightly without moving all that much. Make sure to keep your shoulders and neck relaxed so you don't get tension in your upper back, especially at the base of the neck. Takes practice but will help over time.

And, of course, you can find a lot of information online about bike fit that might help you make adjustments to your current bike to make it optimally comfortable: seat height, seat distance from handlebars, and handlebar height and angle.

Have fun riding!

way cool thank you for those tips. I will have to test ride a bunch of bikes and decide what I want and use those tips when I'm riding them.

I was just sitting in my chair and realized I might need to clarify one aspect of my suggestion. When I say "lift up from the torso" on the bike, I mean lifting the body up away from the handlebars, not vertically straight up (as in up through the head and shoulders). Make sense?

Think I understand and I've been reading on it every since you mentioned it. Seems like a lot of people put hands to sleep by putting to much of their weight on them or by grabbing the handle bars to much.

SMILE I can handle being that kind of inspiration.

Hey Rosey - You're looking so good and fit and barefoot.

The outfit just says spring/summer. I am needing new tops, I think next week I'll hit some thrift stores. You've inspired me again :)

You are making so much progress, Rosey! And new clothes are a wonderful reward. Almost looks like a Road ID on your ankle. Is it?
