I just received my new pressure cooker and the vegetarian cookbook mentioned earlier in the thread.

I used it to cook garbanzos last night and they came out perfect after only 30 minutes.

I have a question for you pressure cooking maniacs. In the cookbook some recipes call for a "flame tamer," aka heat diffuser. I have a glass-top stove. Is this really necessary? I read some reviews on Amazon.com for these and people had some caveats about using heat diffusers on glass-top stoves.

I also have a glass top and I still think a flame tamer would help with certain recipes. I have never gotten around to getting one though. What works for me is to really turn down the heat and keep my eye on the pot. It can burn the bottom of your pot. I haven't had it burn so much that it ruined the dish or I couldn't clean the pot though. I don't make those recipes often. I mostly use the pc to make soup, beans, veggie dishes and steamed veggies.

Still experimenting with the PC. Trying to infuse some flavor into beans is my biggest challenge. Using cloves of garlic. Have tried spices during and after cooking. What works for you?

I cut an onion in half and put it in with the beans. After they are cooked, I fish the onion--what's left of it--out, throw it away, and add diced onion to the beans along with chopped garlic and smoked paprika. I used to add the garlic and diced onion at the beginning, but I kept finding tiny bits of onion in the vent when I cleaned it, so I quit doing that.

I was always told you could not use a pressure cooker on a glass top cook-top. Are there any tricks? My son wants to use a pressure canner and was told he couldn't use it on his glass top stove.

I don't know why you can't use a pressure cooker on a glasstop. I've used mine three times. I just heard that you're not supposed to use a heat diffuser on a glasstop because it could get too hot and/or scratch the surface.

I've been using my pc on a glass top stove for the last 3 years with no problem. I can't think of a reason why you couldn't use one.
I can see why your son was told he couldn't use a pressure canner though. They are giant cookers. I used mine a couple of times on the glass top before I stopped and thought that maybe it wasn't such a good idea because of the weight (weight of the canner + water + jars). We now use our pressure canner on a portable camping stove outside.

Hahaha, not quite the type of recipe you're looking for, but I just looked up to find my cat climbing into my pressure cooker!
I've tried disciplining her to stay off the the stove and counter but you know how they are!

Sure do I have 3 grown cats and 3 kittens. Thanks for the laugh! Couple of my cats are McDouglers too--I can't eat without them mooching my beans and rice!

The Yonana is great. We just love ours. I also could not be without my pressure cookers.
