Yeah most people hate lawsuits, think they should take responsibility for their choices. I think we can all agree that Nutella dropping false irresponsible health claims is a win for consumers. Fewer nutella jars will be purchased in the name of good health. That's great!

As someone with sensitive skin that has spilled hot coffee straight from the pot on myself right out of the shower in my lap I never once considered the infamous McDonald's coffee incident that required major medical care and skin grafts a frivolous lawsuit... without even knowing all the other details that made it so incredibly negligible on the part of McD that a jury actually awarded millions of dollars in damages above and beyond just the medical costs she was seeking.

As far as this Nutella incident goes, the company just has to offer a refund, if anyone claims it, for their product (no more than $20/household) and only up to a set amount ($2.5 million), conform to already established labeling laws and change their advertising strategy. They were getting customers based on deception so that absolutely sounds reasonable. When did we reach a point where rather than being angry at the false labeling and advertising we get mad at the person for believing it? I'm very confused and troubled that people would rather encourage others to be more cynical and distrustful than demand honesty and integrity. Even those of us that supposedly should know better struggle with this... if not, I doubt Jeff Novick would be selling so many dvds trying to teach people how to read labels (I thought most of what he says should be obvious, but it clearly isn't, people still ask questions about these and have threads of confusion over various products all the time, even here, even from people that have seen his talks! so to be surprised that a busy mom that has certainly been indoctrinated in the SAD initially believed she was making a healthier choice and consider her foolish... seriously???) I've never seen the Nutella ads, but I did recently pick up a jar I saw at the store and read the back of it just because I had heard so many great things about it from other mothers, how much their kids loved it and it's so healthy and delicious, and I was very shocked and perplexed... now I'm thinking it all makes sense hearing about this lawsuit. For better or worse they were definitely providing a very misleading campaign. (sorry for the rant, those comments over there really frustrated me, obviously... I bet most of the people there making the nasty comments are eating something they think is healthy thanks to false advertising -every one knows milk does a body good, right?... they just don't get it, I guess).

Even as a kid I knew Nutella was just junk food. I wonder how many bridges this woman's been sold in her lifetime...

All it says is that the stereotype of compassionate vegans is just that; a stereotype.

I agree with Summer. The company was in trouble for false advertising, something that any who cares about public health should support. The claim didn't make anyone rich, it just forced the company to stop marketing Nutella as a healthy breakfast food for children. If you're too smart for that, great. If you think you're too smart to be bought in by advertising ever, HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, I've got a few billion dollars worth of advertising companies who have psychologists on staff that I'm sure would love to show you how smart you really are.

It's good that we are trained through our healthy endeavors to examine the ingredient lists and nutrition information, but a lot of well-intentioned people are not, and while I wouldn't expect any of you naysayers to bend over backward to help them, it seems a petty thing to criticize anyone for asking for advertising to be more honest.
