When I first began McDougalling in earnest last year I would bring up plant-based diets in conversations that warranted it. In other words, I didn't start conversations about it, but if I thought it related to the topic someone was already discussing like health and nutrition or weight loss I would put in my two cents worth about the McDougall Plan. I remember one day my family was talking about Whole Foods Market and I mentioned offhandedly that Dr. McDougall was one of the medical or nutritional advisors to Whole Foods. My family already knew I was on the McDougall Program and thought it was weird because it was vegetarian (I've since learned never to use the word vegan or vegetarian around them because they think it's crazy). The day I mentioned the Whole Foods/McDougall connection my daughter lit into me again about how crazy she thought McDougalling was, so I've never mentioned it again AT ALL. She and her family moved in with us this past month because the lease on their rental was up, but they hadn't closed on the house they are buying and there was an overlap of one month. I was worried that all heck would break loose about the differences in our eating styles or I would get a lecture about how bad the McDougall program is. Nothing of the sort happened. Both my daughter and my son-in-law commented about how much weight I've lost and that they wanted me to keep eating the way I do because it was apparently working. So the moral of this long story is. You have to walk the walk and not just talk the talk. Seeing really is believing.
