Hi there lovely people,

I've just started out the MWL Program from 80/10/10 (not because I want to lose weight, but I don't like the idea of having oil and salt in my food). I am 5'3 and 110lbs, and used to eat 4000 calories on fruits.

I don't know if I'm under-eating or I'm just a ravenous creature by nature, but I just cannot get full. I had one big bowl of brown rice and another big bowl of veggies for breakfast today, another big bowl of brown rice and another big bowl of veggies for lunch. I wasn't full and had 1/2 of oats after lunch. It's been an hour since lunch and I'm hungry again.

Is this normal? Or am I abnormal?

Really appreciate replies :crybaby:

Dear paranormal Jaymejoy, welcome aboard!

You seem to have made a good start. Many here find that at times we eat huge amounts of food and then eat more a little later. So if you are eating according to the guidance here, you know that it is OK to eat when you are hungry and eat until you are satisfied.

In regard to amounts, I think that eating three pounds or more of the unrefined starches/day is common.

So enjoy the good foods and keep us posted on your journey! :-D

Hi Pinkrose!

I'm having more than 3 pounds of unrefined starches. Is whole-grain oats considered an unrefined starch?

Thank you for your input!

(Still hungry after two bowls of veggies)

Hey girly!! ;-)
I rememba you from 30bad and youtube right??? I just thought I would tell you in the beginning of this way~o~eating I was eating a ton too!!! And I'm a huge eater!!! But guess what, my appetite finally calmed down, and I am soooo satisfied now!!! I was scared at the amount of potatoes I was eating but, after a week or so my portions seemed smaller. I still eat a lot but no where near what I did in the beginning. It was like my body needed it!?!? :duh: And I must say I have never been this satisfied, even though I tried on all fruits... I am definitly digesting yummy starches much better then fruits for some reason  Even though I loved being a raw~fruity~gal :\
Hope this helps?? :-D

I found that adding a handful of beans to my rice and veggies makes ALL the difference. It allows me to eat a smaller volume and am really not hungry.

Yup! I'm from 30bad and I'm going to do this lifestyle for a month :) just wanna debunk the myth of starches and carbs make people fat (which is not true).

I love being a raw fruity girl as well! Especially the attention I was getting from random people when they see me eat lol.

Yup! You helped me realize that I'm normal :) love!!

I've also come from a 30BAD background and I am finding it very difficult most of the time to curb my hunger. I think when I was consuming only fruit that in order to get enough calories you have to consume vast volumes and this causes your stomach to enlarge to accommodate this. This could put your signals out of sync for awhile while you adjust to the new regime.

I would like to say I have found something that helped but as of yet nothing has helped me. I did try adding in beans but it didn't help all that much. Right now I'm trying to relearn my bodies cues with intuitive eating, but this is a slow and tedious process to say the least.

Haha you think 3lbs is a lot...... Some days I could easily eat over 3kg (Roughly 6.5lbs)of sweet potato without batting an eyelid, on top of all the yummy veggies.

But don't get me wrong I have much love for 30Bad and in the future when I'm in a better frame of mind and better situation I can not wait to get back on that horse but for now Mcdougall's plan suits me too the "T" or should I say to the "potato" :D

Much love and please keep us informed
Peace
Mat "BuddhaBum"

I am never satisfied at lunch or dinner unless I have beans with my meal. I'll have a bean soup or just cooked beans. At least a cupful. Beans are very filling, or potatoes I find potatoes filling as well.

Hi there, I did 30 BaD prior to this way of eating as well. I also noticed a huge amount of hunger at first. What did I do? I ate more! After a month or so of eating more food I noticed my hunger was gone except when I was actually hungry!

Keep in mind that I had no wish to lose weight so I just ate as much as I felt like three times a day. In 4 months of eating this way I have gained about 5 pounds, but I feel awesome consistently every day.

Moral of the story: don't be afraid to eat until you're full.

jaymejoy your appetite will change after you adjust to this way of eating. I felt like I ate everything in sight at first too, then after a few weeks my appetite was sharply reduced and I feel more normal now. I've also eaten 30bad and find that with McDougall I'm more satisfied and feel more grounded which works for me.

i see people have given you great advice thus far around not being afraid to eat a lot. The other little thing I will add, that has been making a HUGE improvement for me, it to actually slightly up my intake of healthy fats, like nuts and avocados. I know this is not the MacD plan exactly, but it has made a world of a difference for me. I only add a little extra, so, instead of my fat intake being around 9%, its a little more. I got the idea from Dr Joel Fuhrman who advocates a little more fat than McD.
Not only do I feel better overall, it has quieted down my hunger a lot and I don't need to eat HUGE bowls of starch all the time. My meal sizes have shrunk down and you can definitely still lose weight @ the same level as the McD plan.

Hi y'all lovely people!

My appetite has been greatly reduced like crazy! I get full really easily now and I don't get hungry until the next meal. I now eat around a third of what I used to eat in the beginning.

I did not expect to lose weight actually, especially when I was eating vast amounts of food. Surprisingly, I did lose weight lol. When my boyfriend's mum and his sister saw me (like a week after adopting Dr McDougall's plan), they urged me to get on the scale because they said I have become thinner.

I'm happier now because I don't have to worry about the bottomless stomach anymore, because I'm easily satisfied with the food I have -- thus saves me some bucks in my wallet.

Thank you people, thank you so much :)

I'm glad I read all that, because I see I am not the only one. I had the same problem, when I came from LFRV and I was constantly hungry and I ate tons of starch, now I eat much less. And I also gained weight on starches, but thank God, because I was underweight.
