Can you steam a whole baking potato or sweet potato or yellow skins for that matter?... or do you have to chop or slice them?

I chop up sweet potato with the skin into large circular chucks and steam. Takes up to ten minutes before they are soft.
I find steaming sweet potatoes is superior to nuking them and steaming is a much quicker method than baking.

I cut potatoes in half lengthways. They take a little longer to steam than sweet potato.

I haven't boiled sweet potatoes yet, but I will slice them and place them in the oven to back, about 12 minutes a side or so at 425.
