When your friends post stuff like this Image

Do you go for the McDougall or do you just let it slide and ignore it?

I would totally post a link to the McDougall home page, with the comment that it's sure working for me!

Trust me on this: One day you'll wake up and realize that it no longer feels like "being strict." It just feels GOOD. :)

All the above, plus tell them (like Dr. McDougall does in his books) that a healthy body is the most attractive body. They may or may not get results from the diet they sent you, but will it give them lasting health? I was fairly slim until I was in my 40's. I looked great, but my bad diet caught up with me and through my 40's and 50's I could not stop gaining weight. Same with my husband. I went from 150 lbs. to 200 lbs. in 10 years and gained another 60 lbs. in 5 years! Everyone's body slows down. Most people, including doctors will just say "eat less and exercise more," but that didn't work for me. Neither will eating the most foods on the list your friend sent you, exp. the oils and fatty foods. Only by figuring out the key to a healthy diet will people have lasting health, which includes being slim. Dr. McDougall outlines this so well in his new book, The Starch Solution.

That's quite interesting, because when I started the McDougall diet on Feb. 8th, about the only weight I needed to lose was in my belly and moobs. The only foods that I stopped eating at that point (I'd already been a vegetarian for 28 years) were oils, dairy, and other high fat foods such as peanut butter. And I've finally lost just about all of that fat, 15 pounds worth.

I'd challenge the person posting that to eat plenty of oil, peanut butter, dairy, and meat and then report back on how much belly fat they've lost.

I am not sure this would be the most effective strategy. Everyone is different. But in my low carbing days I ate all that (except for peanut butter, because I hate it) and I have lost a lot of weight. The thing is, as Dr. Campbell says in "The China Study" undergoing chemo therapy or taking up a heroin addiction are very effective ways to loose weight, but would you really want to do it? And how would it effect your health? Seems like it's a very hard concept for a lot of people to grasp - some ways to loose weight are unhealthy. Most people automatically equate loosing weight with health.
